so this weekend i borrowed a friends cluckin crazy video, not terribly impressed, they do a lot of up close banging, but for every half hour of shooting, there is a half hour of wrestling, stopping at pizza shops, convenient stores etc. and every single and group of birds that comes in either has to be in slow motion or they put them in this special effect where the bird is white and everything else fades black. its retarded, glad i didnt pay for it

I have shied away from videos and TV programs because they haven't been very helpful to me. I don't need to see guys blasting birds all day long or see them working out at the gym (i.e., Flyway Highway). What I want to know is how I can improve my hunting ability and what products actually work out in the field.

That is one reason I love this board. I can post something on here about layout blinds in the snow and get some good answers. I would have to watch umpteen shows before I got that answer or saw the solution. Every once in a while, Benelli will have Tom Knapp give a shooting lesson, but how about an entire 30 minutes of how to shoot.

I totally agree. I can see some of these videos being fun for preseason to sort of get you pumped up but most of the "instructional" videos are just bunk. They don't really offer me anything to improve my skills.

I have a couple buddies that I have introduced to waterfowling and they are absolutely hooked. They can't work a duck to save their life though. I have tried to help them through this with suggestions and reference to different call makers and CD's but the one thing I noticed is they all have their ideas on HOW to blow a call but seldom ever WHEN to blow a call.

I have an old Video though that I had thought I lost but just got back from a friend that I loaned it to some 4 years ago! It's Captain Charlie's "How to blow a duck call" and it really is great. Not only does he cover the basics of making the sounds but he goes into the instruction of when to use a hail call, a lonesome hen, a comeback, and a feeding chuckle. He even shows the birds in action. It's pretty basic but cool and it's just what my buddies need I think, I'm glad it was returned to me.

Anybody else have any experience with calling instruction not so much on HOW but more WHEN, I'd love to hear your suggestions.

only real experience i have with calling when and how is through the tapes that came with my sean man calls, they are good advice on when to throw what notes at the birds, one came with my express and a different one with my shorty
