I'm planning on doing some hiking up in the mountains outside of town and figure I may as well look around for some sheds but I don't really know where to start. I know I can't just go stomping through the woods hoping to find some. Is there anything in particular I need to look for? Do they fall off naturally or do the deer smack them on a tree? I don't mind if you laugh at my questions as long as you have a little advice for a transplanted city boy. Thanks.

Tater, look for them in the same places that you hunt them, along field/cover edges, feeding ares, along fence lines..
I haven't found many myself, jsut mostly been lucky... But the ones I have found have been found everywhere deer go.

they are still dropping now in most places and are just beginning in others. find the deer=food=beding areas. check these spots ad the trails inbetween. just like hunting but the opposit. you do want to go trompsing around in their bedding area!

i am a shed hunting king. go were you know were the elk or deer are and look around. i find them all over the place. fence lines, trails, open fields, buy trees, east facing slopes. also find a good hill and walk it, walk the hill verticaly, then walk up 10-20 feet up and do the same all the way up the hill. i hope this helps you out. thay have not started to shed in new mexico yet. i give it another mounth, then i am going to hike every day.
