Blktail.....I fear the politicians will not listen...and if they do they will not heed the message. They most often feel they know better than we do. I say we because our politicians are no different than yours. I also fear that without some defining moment or happening..the rights of all Canadians to own firearms will be reduced to ashes in a few short years. I hope I am proved wrong...but the liberal rabble in Quebec and Ontario provinces will control your politicians to the point that you will be able to change nothing for the better...short of...well I'm sure you know your country better than I. I am also afraid that our country will not be too far behind yours
Does this make me a pessimist??

skeet you are right on the money with your assessment. You are also right that your country won't be far behind if you look at some of the changes that have taken place and the fact that there are global small arms disarmament meetings attended by the US and Canada that the average schmuck knows nothing about.
The average guy also doesn't know about the move....and it is a lot more rapid than we think, towards banning the use of lead in bullets. Barnes has a step up on it.....and do you think the new projectile using tungsten instead of lead might have something to do with it?
Trouble is, the average guy does not belong to the NRA on your side of the border or the NFA or CSSF on our side. They don't even belong to a Fish and Game Association.........if you don't believe me just look at your local state or provincial states for the number of resident hunters and then check out the number of members of the state or provincial Fish & Game Association.......you will be saddened by the numbers.
To a great degree ignorance is bliss and it plays right into the hands of the government and groups that are aiming to take our firearms away from us.The majority are all too willing to leave it to someone else to do.
By the way Blktail.....and I am not trying to be a know-it-all, but e-mails are not the way to go. They are routinely ignored because they do not place any store in e messages as they are so simple to do. Sit down and type a letter and send it, CC'ing it to several people....ie the local provincial politicians, etc. Then they have to respond, even if it is just one of their minions doing it, and that gets noticed and adds pressure, e-mails don't. A Federal MP told me this.

Harper has already stated that if elected he plans to do away with the Gun Registry in favor of hiring more policemen and arming our border agents. That's at least a sign of hope for us. I've had enough of Paul Martin and would like to give someone else a chance to run the country. I for one am thoroughly sick of the Liberals. It's just one blunder after another. All I want is someone who is honest and has our best interest at heart. Is that too much to ask? Best wishes.

What kind of organizations do Canadian gun owners have to speak for them in the higher government offices? Such as the NRA down here. It is a amazing though how many hunter/sportsmen/sportswomen we have in the USA that don't belong to any of these programs here but wine and cry about the laws....Numbers do speak.

skeeter that is what I was getting at in my previous post as well. It is only a small segment of us that put our money and time where our mouth is....the rest wait for someone else to do it for them.
In Canada the equivalent of the NRA is the National Firearms Association (NFA).

Save a lot of time and heartache. Go to the polls next week and vote the Liberal asses out. Give Harper a chance. If he doesn't do a better job of running the country, vote him out also. It's time to tell these clowns that the people run this country. Best wishes.
