I just got the3 certificate back for the Canada goose I shot in Dover De a couple weeks ago. It was banded on July 28, 1999. when it was too young to fly at approx. 39 NE FORT CHIMO QC.
My first band and I thought it was really cool.
thats pretty cool indeed, the only band experiences i have had are with local birds, except for one, we were feeding ducks me and the X and she noticed a neck band so i called in the number it was banded in NY. My buddies have killed a few all local, and i got me first just last month and i killed him a mile from a place where the banded a ton of geese this summer so we'll see. its still pretty cool

Bands are awesome. I killed a duck from New York that had a $100 reward band on it. I killed a goose that was banded in Quebec. I killed another goose that was banded in PA and it was 12 years old when I killed it. I also killed a couple that were in the same banding group because the numbers are really close.
In the end, it isn't so much about having the bands around my neck, but more about helping with the tracking of the birds and have the stats in the filing cabinet from the cards that I get.
Good luck to the rest of you on the bands and make sure you report them.
I am sure that Skeet has a box full of bands at his place, and he is probably willing to part with them for cheap. LOL
today the guy from the stoeger story killed his 9th goose it was banded, i had killed a bird late in the day, carried it all the way to the car and never noticed it was banded till i put it in the trunk. the 2 birds are only about 20 band numbers apart. way cool

Sounds like you guys are cleaning up on the bands this year. Good for you.
the crazy part about todays bands are if you just looked at them side by side you would swear my band has atleast 5 years on his,
fabs, the bad part is i am afraid i have created a monster, my fishing buddy turned waterfowler has come to expect birds back pedalling at 15 yds and daily limits every time, he is also after my sean mann shorty :(

I wish I had hunting buddies that were interested in calling. I even gave a friend of mine a goose flute because he showed some interest, but that flute, along with his shotgun, are collecting dust. I do a lot of hunting with my dad, and he has almost no desire to learn how to call. He talks about it once in a while, but he just never picks up the call. I might just buy him a flute for his birthday so that he can practice in the car during the off season.
You are lucky to have a buddy that is so interested in hunting. Hopefully, he will continue to be interested even after some bad days. If he is big into fishing, he will completely understand that it isn't Christmas every day you are out on the water or in the field.
You and I should try to get together sometime next season. I'm going to buy a trailer during the off season, so I should be able to travel almost anywhere with all my gear. That would make for a pretty fun hunt, and you are more than welcome to come down here and hunt with me, but I know how the money situation can be when you are just getting out of school.
so i got a band certificate back, turns out this particular bird was banded in 2000 so where called Ft. chimo quebec near the lower end of hudson bay, 3 other hunters i know between here and philly killed birds from the same banding location within 50 band numbers of my bird

That is pretty cool. Now, start looking for the geese and ducks wearing two bands. They are usually worth $100.
