this question is not for savage 10ML users who use the nitro based powders.

What is your favorite propellant and why? I see a lot of triple 7 users, but almost no one talks about clean shot. How about the new Pioneer powder that's supposed to be so clean burning? What has been your experience with it? What about Pyrodex? Are there others?

Does anyone remember Black Canyon?

Aw...I wanted to post about my Savage muzzleloader... I do remember Black Canyon...and a nastier powder I have never found. It clumped up terribly. I had a quick loader with my load in it and it was so hard I couldn't get it out of the QL and that was only in 2 weeks. Had a whole container unopened that was just one big chunk of Black something...that was gummy. But it did burn...fairly fast....after I set it in some smokeless powder that I set on fire. It finally got the Black Canyon going.

I'm kinda partial to Triple 7. As far as that American Pioneer Powder, I wouldn't waste any money on it. It fouls a lot more than 777, and is about the same to clean. Not terrible, but not as good as advertized.

Well you are doing a lot better than me.......I tried to ask them about their powder and availability and never even got a response...........none. Tried several times.

To give you unbiased(as in actual experience) info on APP powder, I use it, and it is my favorite propellant. Using AmericanPioneerPowder, the most I've shot is 70 times without cleaning at all. At the end of those 70 shots, I cleaned my rifle to no dirty patches on the bore with 1 wet patch, and 2 dry patches. Totally clean with only that. It shoots faster than black powder, and is way cleaner than anything else out there.

rem 700,
Just out of curiosity, what weapon and projectile are you using? I've found that seating projectiles becomes downright unpleasant after a few shots with the APP sticks in my Omega (either XTPs or Dead Center bullets). If you're able to shoot 70 times, you've seen much better results. Also, the sticks don't fit down the bore without scraping the edges, something I never experienced with hodgdon's preformed charges. While I will readily admit it is easy to clean up, I haven't seen any appreciable difference from triple 7 (might be just me???).

Omega 50 caliber, 250 grain shockwave on top of 120 grains. Your info on sticks is better than mine: I use only loose powder in my rifles, especially because the shape of APP sticks--don't look "normal", and seem to leave excessive air space I don't like the thought of.

Yeah, they do look a little wierd... I doubt that thre's any more excess space than with the hodgdon charges because of the holes in the middle. Maybe so... I don't know.
