After its long hiatus, (I would say at least 50 years) the 25 Souper broke paper today. I wouldn’t call it a tack driver YET, but it looks to have potential. I used what I calculated as the lower end of the scale for loads, tweeked the scope, and shot five, 5 shot groups.

Two groups with 37gr of H-4895 and a 75gr V-max. One group with 38gr, one group with 39gr, and one more with 37gr and 85gr Nozler BT. I inevitably had one flier out about 2-3 inches but the other four were inside 1.5 and the one with 38gr had 4 inside the same square. No signs of pressure so I will continue. No Chrono, I was shooting inside and the lighting was not good enough. The BTs were a bit strange. Cut the same hole with the first two shots, one inch left of center, the next three were inside a half and inch 2 inches high dead center?!?!?! Guess I had 2 fliers on that one. At least it shoots straight and I have something to work with.

The snow is coming in and I have some new coyotes to call on Saturday. Private property that has not been hunted butted up against national forest. The land owner said its time to thin them out. He has had a bobcat look in his bedroom window 3 or 4 times this winter and gave me the go ahead to take one of them also.

I know you’re supposed to name your gun after a woman, but Harry built this thing so Souper Harry may get his first kill on Saturday!! I think he will be busy in the next month or so.

Martini,

I'm jealous you have your rifle already and you got to shoot it. My rifle just went to the gunsmith a week ago to get cut and crowned. But my new rifle will be worth the wait. If my brother's .264 Win Mag is a precurser of what to expect from that caliber my rifle will be able to shoot the flys of a bull's a$$!

Good luck Sat. I hope you have better luck than I`ve been haveing. I`ve been calling abt. everyday for a week and a half and haven`t called in a coyote yet. I`ve seen 2 when driveing around in the last 3 day, bailed out and took a shot at one of them, but he dropped over a ridge just as I shot. I when over him. I mostly use a Fox Pro, but have tried mouth calls the last couple of days also. I find fresh tracks about every where I call, but can`t call them out where I can see them. If this keeps up for another week you can call me baldy.

Didn't get a shot on Saturday. The wind was howling and position was terrible. The only way to access his property was from the west side and the wind was blowing west to east. I'll bet every dog on the place got a wiff of us as soon as we got out of the truck. We set 4 times on fairly open hillside, at least got a good lay of the land and invited back. Good sign all over the place and brush piles with bunny tracks all over. Dog tracks in the new snow and useing game trails. One set of bobcat track. I'll get em before the season is over,,,,I hope.

Catfish,,, I never had anyone tell me this yote hunting was easy!!!Keep after em. I use electronic call one in a while, but I really prefer the mouth calls.

Made another contact for more land. Ranchers just begging to get rid of predators before calving starts.
