17 Gallons!

I just got back from giving my 136th blood donation, Yup, that's 17 gallons.

Not patting myself on the back here (darn hard to type while doing that) but just a reminder. Every pint of donated blood saves up to four lives.

It doesn't hurt, it doesn't cost, and it makes you feel darn good to know that such a simple act saved a real life - maybe more than one.

Do it. Often.

I was precluded from donating for several years because of frequent travel to some rather nasty areas of Central and South America, and currrently because of medications I take. Before all that, I probably gave a total of about three gallons.

Your points (or pints) are well made. Perhaps most important is the fact that there is still no substitute in many cases for donated human blood. Without that simple selfless act, several modern surgical and lifesaving procedures would be impossible.

I used to donate fairly regularley, but after the BSE scare in europe alot of us Military types are precluded from donating. haven't been allowed to donate since summer '90.

after that was Desert storm,a nd since we took malairia (spelling?) meds, we wenrt allowe dot donate for 3 years, then came the BSE scare, and haven't been allowed to since. :/

Thankie Rocky, but i got out of the military in 92.
I spent 9 years in tanks, feild got overstrength after the phased over the final M-60 units, to the M1's. With so many people in the field promotion points were ridiculously high.

About a year after Desert Storm, they changed all the time and grade requirements. I didn't the the civillian schooling ( IE bach degree) for additional points, and no matter what anyone tells you, you can't go to school, in the military, in a combat arms MOS.

I gout out after that. I would have stayed in, but i was just tired of dealing with the BS that should have never existed in the first place.

I still keep in touch with some of the guys, and my hats always off to any member. It's just not what I do anymore.

I just frustrates the dickens out of me that I cannot donate blood. I've received enough blood that I feel an obligation to give blood.

The only person I know that has given more blood than that sells his plasma ever 3 days to the blood bank.
