Coyote in Pennsylvania

I want to know where to go hunting for coyote at near pittsburgh. Also i would like to know where to find info on farmers in the area who are having coyote problems and if i can go hunt for them on the land.

Take a drive and start knocking on doors. Be ready for rejection as these folks don't know you. Dress appropriatly and look the farmer in the eye. Talk about his crops, livestock, if he's having any problems with predators. If he can't help you ask if he knows of another farmer that might need a little help on thinning out the predators on his property. If he gives you a name then you atleast can say that farmer # 1 gave me your name to farmer #2. Good luck and respect the other persons property. When you get permission I always send X-mas cards and drop off some of the wid game that I harvest (venison sausage, venison brats,a couple of ducks ,etc...) You'll know what the would appreciate once you get to know them. Also give them your phone #. I print up business cards with my name, address, phone #, vehicle descriptions . Good luck

Thank you very much. Where i live im gonna have to make a longer drive. haha, i live in the city. I have never trapped but i want to start trapping. I was asking because i really want a coyote for a mount. If anyone has anymore help, i would appreciate it.

Remember also if you trap, you must have the time to check the traps EVERY day. You can have a good time in the field untill you get access to farms down at SGL #117 and the Hillman State Park area. I spend my time around Florence area off rt 18. If not familiar with this area, it is by the Star Lake theater. I have spent many a day without crossing the same road twice and that is just driving not to mention the walks. Ponds, fields, woods, feedplots, trails. Have had yotes circle my turkey decoys and jump on them while spring hunting in this area. Have seen them crossing the roads and many that didn't make it all the way. It is along rt22 toward W.va line. Grab a good call, shotgun/rifle ( I take my 223 because you can see a good distance) and have fun, be safe and READ the rule book again. Help the deer/ turkey population here....go get em.

Thanks for the place. When i get time i will take the time to go out there with someone to get em. I was looking at callingcoyotes.com. I think its randy anderson, he has his "the truth, calling all coyotes" video and you get the primos hot dog and ki-yi for 29.99, do you think that will teach me wat i need to know about calling, and will it work. I guess only experience will tell. Do you prefer to go hunting at day time or night with a spotlight.

as with anything else, the more you learn/ the more you earn..so I can't see where it would hurt to check the video out...some of the video stores have CD's you wouldn't have to buy. I am in the woods mostly first light but hve happened upon yotes throughout the day..and have seen them cross the roads any given time.

I contacted hillman state park to see the exact area that would be best to target. They said the coyote population is not very high and they are hard to find. IF you would tell me an exact area i could target to find the biggest population of coyote i would appreciate it. Im driving about 35 miles to get there and i would like to know ahead of time where i should target.

As stated in some of the other posts, you have to move around some, call, wait, move, call again...believe me they are there..check some of the ways to hunt in other posts. I have covered the area from raccoon park on rt 18 and if turn at the equipment auction will start gamelands down that road all the way over rt 22 behind the star lake theater and the miles of gamelands behind it..I can't tell you sit by a certain tree on a hill and will find one..is called hunting after all....if interested, give it a try and check the area out..you might just luck upon that magic spot...also, I'm from the area of exit 2 of the pa pike..you close to here? A while ago I heard they were transplanting turkey to increase the poplulations around the state/othe states but the PGC denied it however, after following duel tire tracks through the fields, I could see where some kind of activity had been going on there and the turkey population had decreased in this area but again, they said they didn't do that...so take what they say with a grain of salt. Do your own research.

I just got my randy anderson dvd's and my 2 calls, the hot dog and the kiyi. Im gonna start practicing and from wat i seen on the video, the mating season is from about jan to march and im gonna go out on my day off and just mess around with the calls. See if i can get a fox or something to come to me. I only have a .270 so i know i have to get some smaller grain bullets or ill blow its face off. Hhaha. Well if anyone else got some ideas let me know, thx.

sean, have you had time to check out the sgl 117 area yet?..I am on my way there in the morning....check out my turkey spot...I won't be callin or playing with them ...just lookin....will check out the tracks while there...check for some yote tracks while there too..I just love that area of woods...
