Barnes Triple-Shock X-Bullet in .22-250 53 gr.
Has anyone loaded this bullet in the .22-250? I am going to try working up a load and have been advised by Barnes to use the load information for their X bullet to start, they advise that at this time they do not have TSX specific load data. I plan to start with H380 powder and Federal 210 Match primers. Any advise would be appreciated!!!!

ive run the bullets through my 220 with good results and will test them through my 22/250 later on the 22/250 is lighter more handy rifle for all around hunting. guess i have cruel intentions in mind.
id start at 38grs of h380 and go from there. this load is well below max and should produce very good results or atleast get you started.
what are your plans for the 53gr tripple shocks. both my 220 and 22/250 may see some use as a medium weight hunting rig. antelope small deer kinda thing.
i just checked and 38grs is about 1.5grs below max, you could start wokring up from as low as 35grs if you wanted with the max being at about 39grs. if you make it much higher than 39grs you may be dealing with compressed loads.
in winchester brass 39.5grs is at 93% of the cases capicity

coulda swore i replied to this.
39.5grs is about max but work up from 35grs till you start getn into the sweat spot at about 38grs.
the 22/250 is known for shooting very well with 38grs and bullets rangeing in weight from 50-55grs.

Evans03,
Just picked up what I needed this weekend. Purchased Varget power and Federal Primers. Hopefully I can find a few minutes to work up my test loads. I will post when it's done! Have been delayed, we've been getting ready for a wedding, got my Son married off this weekend.

ive ran 38gr of h380 behind 55gr bullets with good results. the load seems to work like everyone says.
load development has stopped due to the 22/250 project getting under way.

Well the loads are done and I plan to go to the range in the morning. I ended up loading the following:
Remington cases - new
Barnes Triple-shock X-bullet 53-grain XFB
Federal Premium Large Rifle Match Primers No. GM210M
Hodgdon - Varget powder
I loaded fifty rounds, ten of each of 5 powder amounts. My middle powder amount was 33.5 grains of Varget. I choice this starting point after Barnes advised me to use the load data which is printed for their 53-grain regular XFB bullet. The max load for this bullet is 35.5 grains Varget. I ended up with ten rounds each of the following powder amounts 32.5,33.0,33.5,34.0,34.5. Tomorrow I will shoot five of each rotating the shots at five different bulleyes, numbered 1-5. Each load will be assigned a number corresponding with a bulleye and all five rounds of the same powder amount will be shoot at the same bulleye. Hopefully one round will stand out. If that round is in the middle, then I've found my ideal load. If it on the end then I'll load two above or two below depending on which end.
I will return on another day and shoot the second five of each powder amount to see if I get the same results.

Looks like I getting there, 35.0 grains Varget seems to be producing a 4 shot grouping at 50 yds. that I can cover easily, with room to spare, with a dime. 34.5 and 35.5 spreads them out again. Going to load up two more groups of 35.0 grains to see if I have consistance.
Also for imformation sake, Barnes recommended using the imformation for their 53-grain XFB bullet as they have no published information for the TSX-FB. For Varget the Charge Weight range is shown as 31.5-35.5 with 35.5 being Max. The undocumated believe is that the design of the TSX-FB would allow for higher grain loads as the pressure would build slower.
I have loaded and shot 36.0 & 36.5 grains with absolutely no visible sign that the cartriage is being stressed. I did not experience excess recoil, excess noise, and the bolt opens just as easily as with the lighter loads. As I moved from 35.0 to 36.5 the group is tighting up again.
