Carry two rifles

Do any of you carry two rifles afield? i know a lot of you carry a sidearm too. On some level I appreciate the focus of the hunt and the watching. Say I'm deer hunting...Why confuse the issue by having my .22 with me in case a couple of squirells runs out? It's a deer hunt. On the other hand I like making a hike out of sometimes. Having the .243 and the .22 would be neat no matter what came accross my path or near the camp.

Law prohibits it in MN during firearms deer season, you can only have a firearm legal to take deer on you while hunting deer.

Same in Michigan. Can't have a .22 in the woods during rifle deer season.
I do always bring a back up gun along, which stays in the truck. Had just such a need for one this year on opening day, and was glad I had the spare.

my cousin use to bring a few different rifles with him on a hunt and spent most of his time trying to figure out what one to take into woods....I elminate that problem...if going long distance say out of the country a backup is ok long as it is in a safe place like the lodge but to have an extra one back at the truck while in the woods ...never...too many broken window stories at the end of the day and a return home with the one in hand...na..only take one....now a revolver on the side for either close shots or finish/backup shots is ok in my book and most of the time that is all I take when with someone like my daughters or a young hunter...never leave anything you will miss in your truck...just last year a spring turkey hunter took 2 shotguns to the field...left one in the truck ...returned one hr later...only took one home...I have even been in a pickup camper hunting with someone trying to get in while I was inside...that is when you can see how fast someone can run and how fast someone needs to run...there is a big difference there...

We're not allowed more than one gun in the field during deer season here in Ohio. When I'm hunting out of state, I usually have several rifles with me in case of a malfunction (which has occured in the past). If we were allowed to carry a sidearm along with our regular weapon I probably would, but it's probably not gonna happen any time soon.

In this neck of the woods you may carry as many as you wish.

Usually only one extra is carried and its concealed, like on your belt under your coat.

Like alot of the rest of you folks, I always bring an extra rifle when hunting aways from home or on an extended hunt. I really wish that our liberal state would pass a carry conceal law (won't ever happen with Daley in office):mad: or at least the right to carry a sidearm when afield (especially with all of the meth labs popping up in rural areas)

I usually have an extra rifle in case of problems in oklahoma.
always carry a sidearm, for either finishing shots or if we are camping while hunting, some squirrel goes mighty nice with that venison for dindin. :)

In Nevada I carry my rifle and a side arm usually a .44 mag. I can shoot a deer with either and it is legal. Only a .22 center fire or larger is legal for deer.

For groundhogs only:
357mag on belt most of the time I'm out.
A 223 TC pistol inside a CamelBak Talon and a 22-250 or 308 HB varmint rifle.
Or, 22lr with reddot and subsonics for sneaking along fencerows and popping them close in and a HB varmint rifle slung over my shoulder.
Sometimes I'll take the 222 BDL Varmint and and the 308 VSF at the same time.
You never, ever want to be under-gunned when you're lookin' for pasture grizzlies... ;)
For deer it's usually a Pennsylvania Longrifle.
Or the Brown Bess with bayonet... :D

I almost always toss a second rifle in the truck. If 2-3 of us are hunting together, it's good to know that a rifle or scope malfunction is not going to bring the hunt to a halt. My usual choice is my Swedish Mauser, 29" barrel, and Mojo sights.

What a pain carrying 2 rifles, I know, I used to do it. Where legal though, this is much simpler, in fact, even comes with a shotgun barrel in addition to the '06 and hornet. I have shot many times more than one animal, either hare and pig, or deer and pig, or hare and pig and fox, or some other combo, so I wouldn't let the sound of a shot going off make you think you won't see anything the rest of the evening. Could pick off the squirrels with a hornet to the head.

I kinda wonder if it would be legal in Michigan to hunt deer with it, as the law says any centerfire, and I could throw a slug in the top barrel, guess I'll find out when I get back there, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

I don't think you'd have any problem with using it, other than perhaps in the shotgun zone. I'll see if I can find any info thats legit on using combo guns, but I doubt there would be any issues

gd, in pa as long as you have no ammo for the centerfire on you anywhere, is is legal but I don't know ohio laws on this one...all I know is I want one of these...My ticker is thumping as I stare at the picture...what an outfit.

I never saw any use in carrying two long guns. I usually take a handgun when hunting, very often a S&W .22 kit gun. That is more than adaquate for squirrel, bunnies or birds.

Just for clarification to my earlier post, i never "carry" two rifles, nor do i think the original question was ment that way.
I do "take" two rifles, the second in case the first breaks or has anything happen to it.

When I hunt moose it's on a one week fly in trip. A lot can go wrong in a week so I always carry my 12ga., and a wide assortment of shells for it, everything from slugs for moose to 8 shot for grouse as well as my primary weapon, a 7mm Rem. Mag. It pretty well leaves me in good shape for all situations. You never really know what's going to happen in the bush. Best wishes.
