Muzzie Scope Options

Was just curious as to who scopes their inlines for deer season and what power and scopes that you all use.

I received a T/C Omega last year for X-Mas and am just using open sights for the moment (accurate out to 50 yards) but was considering adding a scope to further my accuracy during deer hunting season.

What have you folks found during your muzzleloader hunts?

i must say the omega open sights are great,,,,, but you do yourself and that gun a dis-service by not scoping it. if you are absolutely positive shots will be under 50 maybe out to 100 ok. but with a 3-9 bushnell banner on my omega the gun is far more accurate than the person using it. first year the day before the season i was scoping my omega, that day i killed one out at 170 yds, open sighted that may have been a handfull. as to what you choose, that banner has been abused for 3 yrs now and is still dead center. my buddy bought one in a 4x i think actually i think it my have just been a 1x turkey scope of some sort and at 100 he can keep them 4 inches or under. both were under 80 bucks, i do recommend spending the cash on good bases and rings.

I happen to have 2 of the Smokeless powder Savage muzzle loaders now and I have put Leupold VX-II 1X4 variables on both. Most of the deer shooting here is in the woods with some shots on deer at the edges of the fields late in the day. The 1X4 powers are ok for out to about 200 yds or more and very good in the woods at low power. I also have the same scope on an 870 and an 11-87 fully rifled slug guns. My daughter shot her deer last year at over 80 yds...bang flop...

Always have used open sights. Good to 150yds give or take with inlines. But...in my state(NE) you are required to use 1x max power optics during ml season. However, I was thinking of getting a 2.5-7 for gun season because I'll be hunting an area of river that won't be open for centerfire rifles. We'll see...but I already feel confident enough with open sights.

Pretty much all shots are taken at 200 yards or more when deer come out to feed, so for the last few years i`ve had a 12x42 nightforce mounted on my ML2 savage.

I've got a 4-12 bushnell banner on my Omega. At shorter ranges, the lower power works well, but I like the extra magnification at ranges exceeding 100 yards.

i just purchased a optima 45 cal and purchased a 3-9 bushnell banner with it.

nothing special heard good raves about it and for 69. bucks i figured couldn't beat it..

I had a 2x7 simmons bp scope on my tc thunderhawk for years, have taken several bucks since scoping it beyond 100 yds, 2 years ago during early season in va an 8 point fell at 155 yds with it.
Then came early season 04, I helplessly watched an honest 140-150 class 10 point wander around for an hour, 242 yds was as close as he would come. I just didn't feel confidant at that range. on the drive home I kept thinking there had to be a way to fix that.
I got home and that afternoon took a 3x9 burris with bp from the safe and installed. my bro-in-law handed me a pack of bullets to shoot up since he had purchased them by mistake, they were traditions T-Shock XLR's 250 gr., I had planned on shooting my old standbys the MML 260 gr lead sabots so I figured I'd use the XLR's to get close.
Loaded up 150 gr of pyro (not 777) pellets, a T-shock and fired at the 100 yd target, well 10" left then I thought I'll try another before I move the scope. It cut the same hole!
Moved the scope over till it was 1" high at 100 and fired 3 shots for a group, one ragged hole!
moved the target out to 250 yds, fired a round checked the target 13" low, the second substension on the bp reticle is 13", so Now with those 2 changes I'm now confidant to approx 275 yds with it.
BPDR season '05 I wanted to test the T-shocks for penetration had an opprotunity at a yearling buck at 260 yds but decided to let the lil guy live, then the last day, spotted a racked buck on a bluff ranged him at 208 yds, got set up, put the horizontal wire on his backline and the verticle wire inline with the offside shoulder, when the timnet trigger on the TC broke, through the smoke I saw a white belly roll up, he never moved. POI was just behind the onside shoulder, the bullet broke the spine and the offside shoulder and exited.

I have a Leupold M8 4x shotgun scope on my Black Dimond. Why that scope? Cause, I didnt need it on my shotgun anymore.

I recently put on the new NIKON with the BDC reticle and I LOVE IT. Cant wait for deer season.

I have a Leupols 2 1/2 X scope on my Encore. Small, lite and gives you a good enough point of aim for over 300 yrds. on deer. @ years ago I shot a deer at 289 lazered yerd with mine and bullet placement was no problem with the 2 1/2X scope. I would not usually have shot, but the deer had been hit and he stopped right beside a tree I had just lazered. I held abt 3 ft. over his back and double lunged him. If your going to target shoot more power is better, but for just hunting a good 2 1/2 X is my choice.

I use a 2 1/2 Weaver on mine. Scope is closing in on 40 years old and is just fine for the woods of NE. Like Catfish I find the 2 1/2 perfect for anything out to 200-250 yards. 99% of the deer shot in my area are within 100 yards so it works just fine.

I have a 2.5-10 Tasco mildot scope on my muzzleloader. It happens to shoot the 250 shockwaves at 1 mil low at 150 and 2 mils low at 200 with 150g pyrodex. Pretty easy to adjust holdover. Scope is inexpensive and although I've often worried about it, have never had any issues with it. I took it on my 7 to Quebec and shot 2 caribou out to 335yds. So far so good on the smoke stick. I'm using it this year in South Dakota....hopefully I'll post some pics.

One of my guns has a Weaver Grand Slam 3-10X: Another has a 4X Burris and the third has a Redfield Widefield 4X. I have always been partial to fixed power scopes and have 9 of them on centerfire rifles. This sow was killed in late May at a distance of 227 yards and running. The gun is my CVA Mag Hunter and the scope is that Redfield Widefield 4X.
