On Saturday, we decided to go out and look for bears. It is still pretty cold here and we have a lot of snow still too. We didn't see any bears, but I did get my first wolf. I have lived here for 8 years and have never even seen one. Surprisingly enough, I have over 10,000 miles on a snowmachine and have only cut a few tracks.
Well, this guy was laying in a small patch of cottonwoods in this big valley we were riding in and with one shot from my .300 Ultra Mag he was done. I'm going to get a rug made for the wall.
I'll have fish and game seal him today and tomorrow he is going to be shipped to the taxidermist!

Good for you! I seem to attract those things. I've only hunted Alaska once, but what was the first animal I saw when I got out of the tent the first day of my hunt ? A big old wolf. I had a tag but didn't get a shot.

Traveled to Wyoming in 2000, opening day of elk season what trots out in front of me ? A big old black wolf. I had the shot, but I didn't have a tag.

I go camping in Northern MN, and run into them too.

Someday, I hope that the laws change down here and that will be me holding up lobo.

.300 RUM sounds like an adequate wolf round, I'll use my .300 Win. Mag.

That's awesome! The wolf is definitely one animal I want to have a rug of. I'll be in Alaska in September hunting black bears but I'm not too sure if we'll have any opportunities at wolves.

I weighed the carcass last night.....86 pounds. That was minus the hide, head, and feet.

He was a loner. My guess is he might have gotten to big for the pack so he was run out and was looking for his own pack. The bio said they sometimes venture out and meet back up with the pack also....so, I'm not too sure.

Hey that's where my Fido went :D .

Nice one.

I went upto my moose camp this past weekend to check the water conditions and to see what the moose were doing. Very upset to see so many cows and no calves and the valley floor is covered in wolf tracks, including one that was the size of a black bear paw. We did see one bull and the sheep seem to doing well. Will be looking hard this upcoming season and several of the guys are talking of getting in there next winter and see if we can't bag a few of them doggies.
