Now what?

I finally got my new GPS (Garmin eTrex Legend Cx) and I'm trying to get started with Geocacheing but I can't figure out how to download the Geocache waypoints to my GPS. I know there's a way to do it cuz my buddy has the Legend C and his is full of caches. I tried the instuction booklet that came with the unit and it said to go to garmin.com. Garmin says go to Geocaching.com. Lotsa runaround but no help. Anyone know how to do this? I'd really rather not have to hand-jam the waypoints. Thanks.

PS-the Mapsource software that came with the unit is cool as hell. You connect your GPS unit to a computer (preferably a laptop) and you can follow your progress on the screen:D

Tater, if you look around the geocaching website you will find some info on how to do it.

You do need a piece of software to do the transer, but it is free. I know there was a link at geocaching that brought you to it. When I get home tonight I will see what I am using.

I found the page on geocaching.com that has the different programs listed but I'm not sure which one to use. I downloaded the GSAK but it doesn't seem real user friendly. Which program do you use?

Hi Tater, maby I can help a little here, your gps has a certian amount of memory in it, you need to figure out how much that is, so you dont fill it up and then cant add
in things untill you delete something. that being said, you may need to set up your gps for certian settings that fit your area and local gps enhancments, and check to make sure you nema settings are correct. its not complicated, but if you dont have the settings correct your gps may not speak to your pc. once you seem to have things set correctly ( ask others on a gps forum with same type as yours for help) then they can tell you what is best way to assign points in your particluar gps, they are each a bit different from each other and do same things in different ways according to brand and model....

I started with EasyGPS and upgraded to ExpertGPS. I use it to make maps of my hunting club and tracking places to hunt on different properties.

Perhaps you know this already but the Garmin has a connect software for Google Earth. If you down load Google Earth and go to Tools then GPS you will find the connection screen so you can download your Garmin data with it and show your way points, etc. I used my Garmin to lay out my fences at the farm, plus my new ponds, etc.

Click on the ruler and you will have cross hairs to read off Long & Lat numbers at certain points that you can follow with the GPS. In effect you can make a route in reverse using Google Earth.
