About 8 or 9 years ago, my dad and brother were road biking up the Greenville Watershed, (we live in Greenville, SC), when they began hearing yelping sounds up the road. They continued on up the road and found an English Setter lying in the middle of the road that had been hit by a car and left to die.

His neck was completley cut open on 1 side so that you could see the bone. So, my dad and brother moved the dog to the side of the road, and while my brother stayed with the dog, my dad biked on up to the nearest camp where he new the camp director so he could drive the dog to the closest vet.

The next Monday (that was a Saturday), my dad comes to the vet, thinking the dog is probably already buried. As it turns out, he was out on a walk!

After searching for the owners with no luck, we took the dog, hoping to have a great bird dog on our hands.

Unfortunately, we learned very quickly that the previous owner had beaten the dog severely. As my brother says, I'd like to get my hands on the jerk who did that.

Ever since we got the dog, he was pretty worthless, but showed amazing instincts. He'd point bees, birds, moths, you name it in our yard. But he was gun shy and never turned out to be worth much in the field. He got sick and passed away about 2 weeks ago.

While he was worthless in the field, he was nevertheless fun to have around - despite his constant barking.
