Hi guys, has anyone hunted with these guys before? Any feedback?
We will be hunting with them at the end of Sept for Caribou.
Thanks
Jamie

Let me know everything about these guys and your hunt, plan on doing a caribou hunt in a year or so.

Well so far so good. I talked with a few guys who had been with True North before and they all gave glowing reviews.
I am looking forward to going to Yellowknife. The company does get a killer discount from Canadian north. (Approx 25%). They have answered all my questions very quick and I think I like the fact they say taking hip boots is not necessary.
I will try and let you know more as we go along.
Cost at this point is $4200 CAD. But then I got the CAD because I am Canadian.
I like the week we have picked because supposedly the white manes will be that much thicker.
Good luck with your hunt

Jamie .....I have guided for True North. You should get some exceptional caribou hunting when you are going. You may get some rough weather but it is exactly when I would go myself.

Skyline, we will be hunting Sept 22-28 and will be at Mackay lake lodge.
What has been your experience with the white mains at that time of year?
Anything in particular I should be taking?
Any tips or tricks will be most appreciated.
I heard the weather can be a bit nasty at that time of year. It was compared to hunting Alberta during Early November. EG. It could get down to -10c and the wind may blow.
Would you take your own spotting Scope? I will be taking my own range finder. (RX2)
What has been your experience with the fishing at that time of year? Would you take your own rod, or rent one of theirs?

WOW, plenty of questions.
Thanks for your help
Jamie

I guided out of the main lodge. They also have a smaller lodge, Warburton Bay, at the west end of the lake. Yes the manes will be good and white stretching back over the shoulders.....you will be pleased with their appearance.

Take a pair of neoprene gloves for out in the boat in rough weather and a good rain suit, or water proof bibs and coat for the same reason. I have been out in weather where the spray is freezing on you as you head back to camp. A pair of ski goggles are handy to wear in rough weather as well.

May want to consider a Kolpin gunboot for your rifle while traveling in the boat.

I would bring my own spotting scope if you have a good one, many of the Dene guides do not have one.

Spend the few bucks and get a wolf tag and a wolverine tag, just incase. A number of times I have had hunters who didn't buy those tags have opportunities for these trophies and they were kicking themselves in the ass afterwards.

The fishing can still be good. I'd concentrate on the caribou first and then if you have time left you can fish. There is some great fishing for grayling at the mouth of the Snake River and the river from Mackay to Lake of the Enemy. Great lake trout fishing and they are in fairly shallow water at that time. If Gary has some tackle available I would just use theirs as fishing gear is just more excess baggage. Five of Diamonds and Wolverine spoons are good for the lakers. Flies with glass bead eyes and small mepps are good for grayling.

Be prepared to lose one or maybe two days due to bad weather, but you might also be lucky and have no problems. Don't worry you will get a crack at a big bull.

We were actually thinking about useing the Kolpin Gun Boot as our Travel case for each of our guns. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Jamie that will work..............as long as you pad the rifle properly for commercial flights. Can you e-mail me at skyline@inethome.ca to chat.................I am busy getting ready for fall bear season etc and do not check this forum much.
