I just found this place and decided to join. I am an avid hunter (only deer so far). I live in Alabama and hunt mostly Management Areas and National Forrest.
My hunting will no doubt be diminshed this year because of the birth of my daughter, Hannah. I also have a 7 year old son, Hayden. Oh yeah, and the guy who got me started my hubby Paul. I'd like you all to visit myspace page at

I checked out the site, but I didn't see a single thing about hunting.
By the way, my one year anniversary was on July 9th and my head, and possibly other body parts would have been on the chopping block if I forgot. Luckily, I am good with numbers and dates. My wife and I started dating on July 12, 2003, so we kind of share that date.
Where is Orange Beach? We just spent a week in the Outer Banks and I love the place. However, I still worried about bills and work while I was down there. For some reason, I can never get away from everything.
While I go deer hunting, it isn't my favorite type of hunting. I prefer wing shooting over big game hunting and I really enjoy watching my dog, Nitro, retrieve.
How long have you been hunting? What do you shoot? Hope to hear more stories about future hunting trips.

Wlcome aboard, deerhuntingirl, nice to have you. Nice website, too, despite its absence of hunting. But you can fill in all the gaps on the forums here.
Congratulations on your expanding family.
And fabs, my 11th anniversary was on July 8, so we almost have dates in common. And I never forget! (Thanks in large part to the fact that the date is inscribed in my wedding band!)

I doubt I'll ever forget my wedding/anniversary date. It is kind of like forgetting your birthday. Guys only forget because it is convenient or it didn't mean much to them. I know all the hunting season dates, so I don't think it would be a good excuse that I just happened to forget my anniversary.
With all that said, you can bet that I have it in Outlook, along with my wife's birthday and my parents' and siblings' birthdays. I know them all by heart, but it never hurts to have a reminder.

Well, if you'll read the "General" section it says I enjoy hunting and fishing. Also there's a picture of my big boy on that flip book album. I don't mention hunting much on there because I have lots of friends who don't agree with hunting and it upsets them to hear about it or see any images relating to it. I tried to make my site more about my family. I have some bloody pics I could post, but out of respect to my friends who frequent the site, I don't. I have been hunting 4 years.
I joined here so I could have the freedom to talk about hunting without being criticized. (I am a member of a Beatle's forum with lots of vegetarians who despise hunters)
Orange Beach is on the Gulf Coast of Alabama.

My husband didn't forget the date of our anniversary. He knows the date if you ask him.
He just never keeps up with the current date (his job doesn't require him to know the date). He knew our anniversary was coming up, but he wasn't sure the exact day the 12th was on. When I confronted him with the nice dinner and card, he said, "Is today the 12th?" I thought it was funny. I know he loves me and now he owes me BIG!

I shoot a Remington 7mm08. It's a youth rifle, but it's perfect for me since I'm shorty. I'll probably have it forever since I killed my first deer with it and I am sentimental like that.

What I find hilarious is that we as hunters feel the need to keep it a secret. I used to worry about it too, but I don't anymore. If a client comes to my home/office, he/she will see decoys on top of all of my bookcases, a wood Remington ammo box on my desk, and art work of waterfowl and deer on the walls. Of course, my mounts are hanging on the 4th floor because I just do not have room for them in my office.
Do vegetarians feel as though they need to justify why they do not eat meat? I doubt it. Does it mean I cannot like the Beatles music and be a hunter at the same time. Who knows whether or not vegetables can feel pain or not. They very well might be able to, but just cannot convey it like animals do. I can continue going around in a circle here, but my point is that we should not be ashamed that we hunt and own firearms.
Some of my clients are surprised that I own firearms, but I haven't lost a single client that has found out and I live in liberalville. In fact, I have actually had two client ask me if I would be willing to take them to the range and teach them how to use a gun. They have never fired one in their lifetime. Personally, I think if more people were open minded and would try to fire a gun sometime in their lifetime, they would see that guns can actually be fun instead of the evil that they are portrayed to be by the media. Yeah, guns can be used for violence, but so can knives, cars, bottles, golf clubs, baseball bats, etc. Again, those items can also be used for fun. Knives are used every day for eating and cooking. Bottles are used to deliver food and beverages. Golf clubs are used to play golf and baseball bats are used to play baseball.
The first gun I ever used to kill a deer was my dad's Savage 110 in .30-06. My dad has never sold a gun and neither have I. Eventually, I will inherit that rifle from him. Likewise, the first pheasant I shot was with a Browning A-5 and the first dove I shot was with my grandfather's .410 single shot, the maker of which I have no idea.
What does your husband do that he does not need to know what the day of the month is? Does he do any other hunting other than deer hunting?
Regarding MySpace.com, I do not have a good handle on using it. My brother and his girlfriend use it a lot, but I have no idea how to navigate the site. I'll try to check out more of your myspace page later on this evening.

First of all, well said. Some are just completely closed minded. I have been slammed for my beliefs and I just keep them to myself unless I'm among those who believe the same as me.
Hubby is a welder. He makes great money which allows me to take a break from being a nurse to be home with our daughter. He is the supervisor where he works and he does have to do paperwork, but the date is automatically on the paperwork and he never pays it any attention. If you asked him today's date he'd have no clue. I bought him a shotgun last Valentine's Day because I'd like to see us get into turkey hunting, but he hasn't went yet. He's hunted deer for about 18 years. He used to dove hunt and has rabbit hunted a few times. He tried duck hunting but hated it. He did kill a bobcat on a deer hunt we went on. He said since he couldn't get a deer that time, he'd settle for a bobcat. It was a big one and we had him mounted.
We have deer (and a bobcat) mount hanging in the living room of our home.

I'm coming in a bit late, but I'll add my own welcome to Hunt Chat.
It sounds as though you'll fit in well and find lots of new friends here.
Oh, and my anniversay is July 4. Hard to forget that one! It's 36 and counting for me.

Welcome- I am also new to this site. I usually ask anyone who spews antihunting crap if they have ever shot a gun or gone huning. I am also a firm believer that you are born with the ability to kill an animal or you simply are not. My brother never took to hunting even though my Dad took him out. He shot his first and only deer when he was 17 or 18 and has never hunted a single day since. I hunt every chance I get and have killed many deer in every way possible in my state- Maine(bow, rifle and muzzleloader). He did not have the ability to pull the trigger and I do. I have actually put a lot of thought into this and believe it may be genetic. When I see a deer or turkey or anything I am going to shoot- I really don't know how to explain this but my mind kind of 'flips a switch' and my total focus is on my rifle or bow and what I am about to do- no regret, just focus and resolve. I almost become a different person from who I usually am. Don;t know if any of this makes any sense but take it for what it is. Oh, I always remember my anniversary- it is July 29 and my wife is actually the one who always forgets it.

Hey Rocky..I have 34 years so far and with the same woman..even though we dated off and on for 7 yrs prior to that. Now I bet you told your july 4th wife you saw fireworks when you married her...true love.
Welcome deerhuntin girl....glad you enjoy the outdoors and a great sport that involves more than just shooting something..have to take in all the great sites and experiences ya get out there..like watching a tree rat nurse its young or a fawn nursing...all times ya just watch and not fire a shot....these are some of the things I tell anti's they are missing by not being out there in the woods
Oh my 2 daughters hunt with me and sometimes without me..lol..Both are very good at filling the freezor with deer and turkey......and my mind with some of the best quality time spent sitting under a tree eating a fresh picked apple or when they say for me to be quite becasue I talk too much..happy hunting and by all means you have to try the spring turkey hunting...it will be one of the best seasons you will have.
Don't forget to check out all the other forums on HC...there are some very smart and informative people that belong and believe me, you will get the answers you need about anything.
