I have been wanting a new digital camera which would reach out farther than my kodac even though I still cant get on to posting pics and after Fabs has tried to help me with this mission. Anyway, I found a Cannon S2 which I can put a telefoto lense on at a decent price and ordered it. Beach Camera shipped fed ex. Tuesday I came home from work and found a note on door saying we could not leave your package as no one was here to sign for it so I signed the bottom of the tag authorizing them to leave it and I would be responsible. Yesterday after coming home from work i found a slip on the door saying 2nd attempt- could not leave package you must sign in person. so the neighbor met fed ex today for me but couldnt get the package because he was not authorized and they put a note on the door we are sending your package back to shipper unless you call this number today. I called it but cant connect since I dont have a fed ex account. So I called the camera store and sat on hold a half half hour. They said we will ship it to your work after we get it back as long as you are there to recieve it. I tried to explain I drive a service truck and am not in an office to some dude in NJ who speaks broken English. After some profanity on my part i was put on hold again and finally spoke to a lady and told her I paid with a bank card, I have checked my bank account and they have my money, I have signed a waiver for fed ex to leave the package and I will be responsible. I told her I am a single guy and cannot afford to loose a days pay which is more than the cost of the camera by staying home to meet the carrier. She basicly said sorry that is the way it is. After a few choice words I told her to keep the camera and give my money back. She said if that is what you want us to do you have to email us because we cannot gurantee we are talking to you on the phone..
So------Whats a fellow to do????????????

I have had that disaster before too when my parents were on vacation. Now that I work from the house, it usually isn't a problem unless I have to meet a client somewhere or be in Court. The last time I remember this happening was with UPS when I ordered my bow and accessories several years ago. I went online and told them to hold it at the warehouse and that I would pick it up the next day. I got to the warehouse the next day before they closed at 5:00 and was told that my online submission came too late because the item was already on the truck. However, they would hold it for me now and not return it to the seller, so that I could pick it up the next day. Man, was I pissed.
Now, if I ever think I am not going to be home to receive a package, I have it sent to my parents, both of whom are home most of the time and I tell them about when the package will be arriving. Did that when I ordered a new computer for the office and went on vacation to Florida the very next day.
Always look for a way around the problem. However, in your case Rubicon, I would tell the seller where to go since they are so unhelpful with shipping the camera to your work.

Gee Rubicon, when dealing with FedEx, you need more patience. Believe me, it will probably get worse. Try using their trucking company sometime for real frustration. Right now the company I work for has about $6000 worth of pumps and presses lost somewhere between Chicago and Florida. Two of the vendors I use insists on using them for shipping. They are constantly combineing pallets of stuff and then the pallets break because they can't handle the weight. Shipments always arriving late. I could go on and on.
I called and complained a while back. A few days later one of their sales people called wanting more of my shipping business. After I got done chewing on him, he didn't bother calling me back or comeing by and seeing me.
Good luck, I think you're gonna need it.

Rubicon, I ordered a pair of LaCross boots several years ago from Cabela's, I waited and waited, finally I called Cabela's and after a few minutes the lady came back and said we have here, that your boots were delivered 2 weeks ago. I informed them I hadn't received them,( my Mother lives about a quarter mile below me on the same road and she hadn't seen a delivery truck(UPS).)The lady informed me that they would ship out another pair the next day, so I would have them before hunting season,:D
Anyway I started to think about a cabin, about 3/4 miles from my house, no one lives there just a vacation cabin, I thought I'll check it out Lo and behold when I pulled up to the cabin a big Cabela's box was sitting on the front step, a little weathered but contents were okay. Sometime you wonder about who drives these trucks:rolleyes:
Anyway, I called the lady back at Cabela's, and explained to her that I had located my order, which was supposingly left at my residence, which I informed her was wrong, and thank her for her help and that she could cancel the order for the second pair of boots, and gave her my work address to deliver any future orders. I always wondered, What if a dog had came by and dragged my order away or someone had came along and took it. I'm sure that the order was insured, but the driver would have said he had delivered it to my home. Which he hadn't . I would have gotten the 2nd pair of boots, and Cabela's would thought I was scamming them out of a second pair of boots . So now every UPS truck I pass, I look to see if there is a person/or a monkey driving !:D :D :D

OH IT GETS BETTER!!! After another call they decided to reroute shipment to the office of the company I work for as long as I emailed them saying I would accept responsibility for package once it was signed for at the office. But then I had to email them with this request. I caved in and did. Today I had a message from fed ex saying that they had a request to ship to a different location but it was their policynot to reroute but would hold the package for ten days for pickup at their depot then send back to sender. SO I returned the call and te birch at fed ex said we tried to deliver 3 times and are not fooling with you any longer. It goes on a truck back to sender first thing tomorrow morning. I then tried to call BEACH CAMERA to get my money back but they close Fri afternoons and Saturdays. I sent an awful hate email just to vent.

As a Federally licensed firearms dealer, I finally gave up and now insist that all orders are shipped using... believe it or not, the United States Postal Service!
NO kidding! Not one lost shipment, they hold it if no one is available, will bring it back the next day and have never damaged a single gun. I even have a note on the door to leave it next door and they do it... without any crap at all and cheaper than anyone else.
As a dealer I can even use them to ship handguns. Wonderful! And Fed-Ex, UPS etc. can kiss my butt!!!

I now use USPS, If I'm out ridin my horse or out shootin when they get here, I will find a note in my mailbox, up on the road, that he put my package in my pick up truck down by my habitat, I ship gun stocks and barrels with them and it's ok, It might be cause I am in Kentucky, There is no way they would do all that out west in california,

Fed Ex says they shipped the camera back to the sender. Beach Camera says they had it forewarded to my work place and there for cannot refund my money. guess its a waiting game and a learning experience at my cost.

Rubicon, I've been in you shoes before, but fter the first time messing with fedex, i decided to do it differently.
Like you, I drive a delivery/route truck, but I've been at he company i work for since nov '92. All in all wqe have a good set of people.
I worked it out so that anytime i order something that has to be shipped to me, I have it shipped to work, they sign for it, and I either pay our accountant we have ahead of time, or they pay it and I pay them back when I get back. That only if It's COD, if i pay in advance, then they sign and hold it for me.
Works out pretty well for me, but you have to have people you know and trust to do it.
