Nice pics Captain. TreeDoc, need we even ask what you do (i.e., arborist).
Me, I'm an attorney and CPA, but not necessarily in that order all the time. From the beginning of February to the middle of April I am almost always wearing my CPA hat. The rest of the year is a toss up. I don't have any pics of me to post that are work related, but I could take a pic of my office/desk with two big stacks of on the desk and files all over the floor waiting for work to be done on them.

I push a desk and sit in front of a computer most days, though I occasionally get out in the field to a job site.
I am usually designing somebody's next dream house, lately I have been designing commercial buildings, from multi-family condos (63+ suites w/underground parking) to schools & car dealers.
It can be boring, but also quite interesting, I like to think I leave my mark on the world!

I am currently a punching bag for drunken frat boys, "babysitter" for spoiled collage kids that can only use their parent credit card withought assistance, Im also a "sheepdog". Basicly I work security for gated communities in a Collage town, that exells in "hardcore partying".
Sometimes I get a chance to break away, and be a real professional security officer. That means I sometimes get a chance to use my class G license (Armed Security).
The pay isnt what I think it should be. But, You have to be preity jaded to say its a dull job!!
Im in the prosess of changing jobs, where I can get some daytime work hours. So I can finish school, myself! Im going to try Phlebotomy (sticking needles into peoples veins).

After bouncing around for a few years, I found my professional monitary calling... Home Inspector.
I do okay with pay, and with everyone moving into Albuquerque, NM, work is picking up.
Although, I must admit, I am trying to get my 10 year old son jaded early. I tell him that for a job, he needs to find something that he's good at that pays well so that he can do the things that he enjoys on the weekends... Not sure if the advice is taking, but I hope our weekend hiking, scouting, and camping trips help the cause.

RASteele,
The better advice is for him to find something that he ENJOYS to do and can get paid for it because he will be doing it 5 days a week.
Me, I have days when I really like my job and others when I don't. Today is one of the days I don't like it because I have two criminal cases. I was in Court in DC and watched some guy get locked up for a year because he violated probation, and his mother was there at the same time trying to get a restraining order for a year's time. It was really sad, and I almost wanted to cry. Of course, the mother didn't need the protective order with him in jail for a year.
Meanwhile, my client who is in trouble for domestic violence is baulking about attending a 22 week, 1 hour a week domestic violence program because it costs $20 per week. My client this afternoon is crying because the only way he can keep his driver's license after refusing a breathalyzer is to sign up for an ignition interlock device, but he doesn't want to pay $50 to have it installed and $65 a month thereafter. Instead, he told me that he is just going to drive illegally. Told him that he would be in a world of hurt if he gets caught because it will violate his probation on the DUI and his license would be revoked for 6 months instead of merely suspended for 4 months. These thing just do not phase these guys.
Sometimes, I wish I were a hunting or fishing guide, or maybe a shooting instructor.

Wow, that bites! A rough day in court stinks, I know.
Unfortunately, though, you kinda illustraited my point. Very few of us will ever get paid to do the things that we enjoy. Yeah, I would love to work as a Shooting Instructor, or be able to pay my bills and have a good life working as a Land Manager on some farm, but the truth is that we would starve if I held out for a job like that. That is why I want him to know what the real world is like early on. I want him to find his happiness, but also be realistic in his approach to what that would entail. Yeah, my wife and I enjoy our jobs, but they do not reflect who we are and what we do as individuals.
Honestly, I hope he can find something that he loves doing and that pays well. That would make me happier than a lark! But the truth is that the odds are against it and I don't want to see him disappointed if it turns out that can't do what he loves for a career.
On a lighter note, speaking of courts and bonds, did you read / hear about Dog The Bounty Hunter, his son Leiland (sp?), and Dog's brother ('Youngblood') being arrested? ... For "Failure To Appear"?!? I almost shat myself I laughed so hard!

Hadn't heard about that, and barely know who those people are because I rarely watch TV, but I know enough to know that is quite ironic. I wonder how their show is doing? What would have been really ironic is to have filmed some bounty hunters bringing them in. That could have been a spinoff of another bounty hunter series, kind of like how we have three CSI's (e.g., Las Vegas, Miami, and New York).
TV kills me.

Hey Fabs.. You know I have done the guiding thing...for a lot of years. Did the fishing guide thig a little bit too. Have done quite a bit of shooting instruction in the last few years. Teaching 2 women out here in Wy now.. After doing it for money for a while..it just turns into another job. Seriously... and ya get to the point that you don't want to get up and go in the morning. Guided waterfowl hunters for 33 yrs. Can't figure out why...sometimes! But I did get to hunt some really great places(and some terrible ones) shot an awful lot of birds and met some really nice people(and some really bad ones too). Of them all the shooting instructor thing is probably the most profitable of the bunch...per hour worked. Also makes ya feel good when they follow the instructions and it all works...just the way you told them(they still don't believe it) it would. I tell the ladies that when it all comes together..it feels just like magic...and for some of them..it really is.
BTW there is no way I could be an attorney(thats a lawyer for all us commoners)
fabsroman
09-16-2006, 02:05 AM
Some days, I wonder how I can continue being an attorney. However, just like how everything comes together like magic for those women you are instructing on some occassions, I have those types of occassions too. Some clients actually listen to me and do the right thing. Then there are the clients that hire me for positive things like helping them set up a small business or rental property. Just celebrated the one year anniversary of my salon client a month ago. That was pretty cool. It is great when I get to see them succeed. It sucks when they do not listen and I watch them go down the toilet like my granite countertop client. Such is life. Let me know when you are getting back to Maryland so we can set up some shooting.

I love my job! I am a Client Service Manager for an engineering and architechtural design firm. The firm deals mostly with government from the Feds on down to local townships. I develop relationships with potential clients, make sure that our current clients are happy with our work and maintain relationships and service between contracts. I started the job 18 years ago and bought into the firm as a partner 15 years ago. We have mostly repeat clients, so now I'm spending most of my time working with my friends. When I new guy comes along, the regulars tell him to call me and I will set him up with whatever he needs to do his job well and he will look like a hero to his bosses. Of course we have earned that reputation by providing great service. Many times when I set up an appointment with a client he makes arrangements for a project site visit followed by golf, fishing, some hunting or at the very least lunch /dinner and a drink or two. I am now specializing in Transportation related clients ( highways, bridges and all the related support services) and clients that are at the county government level. I do this for the whole nation however realisticly I spend most of my time in Wisconsin with trips to other Great Lakes states and the Rocky Mountain states. Beside my love for the outdoor sports I have started to restore old muscle cars. So far I have completed restoring a 69 Camaro convertible, a 68 Camaro convertible and am currently trying to buy a 67 Camaro convertible. I've convinced my wife that the cars are a good investment but she doesn't think I will ever want to sell them once I have collected my first generation Hat Trick. Now all I have to do is to convince her that an elk hunting trip is a good investment. :D

Ya'll realize it's not really a habit. Bad habits can be broken. Good habits can be forgotten. Some call it an addiction. Likewise addictions however powerful can be overcome. This is a Terminal Disease. No cure. You have been biten by the bug and it's in your blood until you die. No meds can touch it. no vaccine. All you can hope to do is MORE. Now back to the office

I wish my job was the Minnesota basketball coach. He got paid $1.1 million yesterday to quit his job after his team couldn't beat division II teams. Better raise tuition again to pay for that one.

Great pics Pointblank and also great looking dog. Do you do much bird hunting with him? Just a heads up. sssh don't tell Val I said this, but you got to be careful around her. She'll try and talk you right out of your dog:D . Don't know if you have seen hers, but have her show them to you sometime. Great looking dogs, even if they are pampered. J/k Val, you know I'm messing with ya.

I am the chief cook and bottle washer for several companies. But my primary business is as an agent/broker of aviation insurance, commercial insurance and construction bonds.
Just me and the IRS, we are tight, we have an agreement, they tell me how much and I write checks..... They actually allow me to think I own this mess.

First post here and kind of an introduction.I'm a retired dairy farmer originaly from Mn
that found out welding for a liveing is a whole lot easier with more free time than
milking cows 24-7-365.
Started out welding silage boxes for dairy farmers.

Then made cement and garbage units for a large corperation,
till the board of directors made everything politicly correct.

Welcome aboard CJ. It's always nice to see a few more Wyomingites on here. You make about six or seven now and you got that right about dairy cows. You don't get much of a vacation from them and it's not like you can ask your best friend to come over and sit with them if you decide you want to go somewhere. Great pics. Do you work for someone or do you have your own welding shop?

CJ that last picture looks just like a couple of little army men stuck in the sand box behind a Tonka truck. Very nice looking trucks!
