The following is taken from the MailRoom Section of "Peterson's Publishing", "Rifle Shooter", November/December 2006.

The Editor responded to a readers letter about Winchester:

Quote is from Ed.

"The next chapter in the Winchester saga is about to begin. On August 15, 2006, just as this issue was going to press, the Winchester Division of Olin corporation announced that it had entered into a long-term license agreement with Browning for the manufacture and distribution of Winchester brand rifles and shotguns. While no specific models were mentioned in the press release, it is easy to assume that the Model 70 - and perhaps the 94 as well - will be among the firearms produced by Browning. In addition to the M92, several other classic Winchester models - the Model 12 and 42 shotguns, and the M52 and M63 rimfires, for example - have been made by Miroku over the years, some marked Browning and some marked Winchester. It looks like we will now have a generation of "post 06" Winchesters. Can't wait to get our hands on one. Ed."

Well I saw that and though all of you guys and girls (Lady's) would like to know. Maybe Winchester will make a come back of sorts.

The agreement didn't go through. Here is a thread covering this issue.

fabs,

I didn't say it was true or not true, I just copied the quote from the MailRoom section of the magizine. It was the total response from the Editor.

If you think it hasn't gone through well and good. I just told you what was printed in the response.

I did look at what you linked to and didn't see anything that would lead me to believe that the contract failed, I do trust that Rocky knows whats going on but where did the word come down that says it failed. I would just like to read or hear it myself, so what can I say.

If and when Winchester rifles begin to show up on the selves again then we will know.

Bulletpusher,

You are right. The deal might have gone through after August 21st, but the editor's comment about them entering into an agreement on August 15th isn't correct. I would think that we would have heard more about it if it actually went through after the incorrect announcement by Winchester. Of course, I hope the deal goes through and Winchester firearms are still built in the future, even though I really do not care for Browning.

By the way, I wasn't trying to be snooty with that last post. I jus thought I would post the previous thread on here because it provides some insight as to what happened back in August.

I read that some machinery from the NH plant was moved to the FN facility in Columbia, SC.

Next the contract date with the NH union would have to expire.
