How did everyone do?

Moose season is now over and my camp went 4 for 5 on moose and couple of Bou's so far. Not to bad hunting out of what seems the most hunted unit(13a) in the state, at least it semed that way by all the wheeler traffic.

I got a spike/fork by the way, nothing to to write home but filled the freezer.

CONGRATS ON THE MOOSE!
MY SON HUNTED FOR FIRST TIME IN NEARLY 20 YEARS AND GOT A FORKED ANTLERD FREEZER FILLER, MAN IS IT TENDER AND TASTY. WE HUNTED CARIBOU HILLS ON THE KENAI PEN. SAW THREE BROWN BEARS IN TWO HRS AND ONE OF THEM WAS HUGE.....10 FT PLUS

We only did so so this fall but I had a real good time. We pulled my boat to Valdez behind my motorhome for silvers and limited out. Our halibut charter was canceled due to rough seas out in the Gulf of Alaska. It turned out the charter owner didn't want to go out that day and was hoping we'd charter for silvers instead which I declined since I had my own boat there for that.

We went to the Yukon to fish pike but the Dall river was bank full due to all the recent rain so we had to work very hard for a few nice pike which we released. We fished for 2 full days and had a nice camp so it was not wasted time.

Moose season brought us one 53 inch bull for 3 hunters so that was not as good as we'd hoped but we still ended up with all the meat we really needed for our familes. All three of us are getting on in years and we don't need as much meat since our families are grown. I do share with my daughters though and they enjoy the moose meat since they grew up eating it and it is free to them rather than buying beef from the store.

Are you familar with the area around Chena Hotsprings? My wife's uncle and cousins have invited me up several times to hunt around their property and so far I have been happy with my area. But it is getting more and more crowded, up there too I bet. I keep threating some of the guys in my camp "that I was going to jump ship and head north". One of these days I just might but I wanted to hear from other people if it was worth it.

I understand if you do not want more company up that way and choose not to answer. I like to get out more then the kill but a change in scenery is nice too and meat is icing on the cake.

This is real good moose habitat but it is extremely heavily hunted. The locals cruise up and down the road and hunt the river plus all the trails for ATV use. The vast majority of moose taken out there are young and dumb that don't know that man is a danger yet. This year there was a cow season too for the first time in about 30 years.

No fall moose hunting for me. We still have 2 more years of moratorium.

With all the Musk Oxen, caribou and moose you have taken the past several years Kusko you probably aren't going to starve to death even with the moratorium. LOL

Yeah, we are not starving at the Johnson household, but I still would like to shoot one of those bruisers with some decent antlers.

Our moose seem to be making a comeback, but they are definitely not on our tributaries. A lot of our moose have wised up and our either in the mountains or so far up the river, you cannot get there by boat. I will fly out for moose within the next five years unless that Ft. Rich tag comes before that. :)
