Starting to see some Canadas in the newly cut corn fields and the swans showed back up in the bay beside my house this week. Makes me anxious. Are you seeing any of our friends with webbed feet on the move?

I've seen more mallards and geese than doves where I have been dove hunting in Howard County. On Wednesday, I saw all of one dove, killed all of one dove, and had 15 mallards fly over me at 3:00 in the afternoon. Then, as I was getting ready to leave at 5:30, I had a wood duck land in the pond.

Problem with the mallards is that they are flying a little ways up there and they look like they are on a mission. The most I saw in one group was about 100. I'll probably waterfowl hunt up there a day or two for early duck season in the evening, but it is going to be a crap shoot.

the other day a bunch of geese got me out of my recliner because they sounded funny. so when i got outside to look crazy far up in the sky line after line of canadas were headed south west of me. makes me think they are reserving their spot in the november slaughter. as for the ducks, the same old woodies and immature teal are already here, resident black ducks and half colored mallard drakes shall fill the bag. now if i can just find some steel loads that are decent

Central Flyway Report:

Was on the river yesterday (Sat.) to brush the blind and saw a small bunch of mallards, big bunch of teal and 4 pintails. Had 10 or 12 what we call Hutchies, lesser canadas, go over. It was an absolutly beautiful day on the water, temps in the low to mid 70's.
Lots of giants using local kakes and ponds, had a friend call on the way home from S. Dakota. 3 days of hunting 37 ducks and 4 geese, he was in cell phone no mans land so didn't hear what kind of ducks.

i was thinking of this thread lately. now before the early season i was seeing sprinkle of ducks here a splash of geese there. now that the real season is damned near here i must say where the skies are usually a honking mass at 7 AM there are only small groups a'moving same goes for the last few minutes of day light. i am used to seeing a few local farm ponds getting stacked with birds as the sun goes down. not so far this year. they have a week to get here, hope they remember to do so
