View Full Version : powerbelts...again
silly bullets they are, the 245 gr. bullet ahead of 100-130grns pyro blows softball size holes out the side, the 295's shoot a little tighter but again tonight, a last year doe was screwin with me tonight so i smoked her on her 3rd trip by at about 10 steps, thought i missed, she hauled off, not a spec on the ground, i walked 30 yds ... nothin. on the way back down i saw a leaf standing straight up where the rest were matted down, i pick it up to find a needle point spec of blood, hands and knees for 30 yards before i had dime size specs, 75 yds before i found the deer. no expansion that i saw looking at the exit hole, lots of hemorrage. it seems like over kill but i am yet to knock a deer flat with these things. so easy to load and accurate though. but if you hit bone they explode!
happy to have a freezer full

I have been shooting 245 gr. with 150 gr. powder and these deer drop in their tracks. I should add these are the Aerotips.

My brother in-law has shot a few deer with power belts and had no blood trail. He doesn't use them from his 50 anymore.
I dont know what the load is he was using but he still uses them from his 54 and they work great with 130 grains of pyro.
p.s.
This is not a troll my wife corrected my spelling. lol

These are used in my 50 cal. and I shot four deer year before last and everyone of them dropped where they stood.
big kev, are you shooting hornady xtp"s? i used to love them
i really hate the elbow grease required to properly seat a saboted bullet. the reason i stick with the PB's is because they are so damn accurate and even if they dont expand a perfectly loaded and shot 50 cal hole is bad ass on any animal. just for a bullet that is a dollar a piece, would it kill them to make a real bullet,, ummmm say one that is jacketed not plated, skived and bonded for mushroom performance not explosions and fragmentation on impact.

I run the TC shockwave 240 with 150 grn of pellet powder. At 70 yards dropped a doe where she stood.Shot a 150 pound six point at thirty front quartering shot right in the hot box and he went fifty yards with a broken shoulder and a hole you could put your fist in in the ribcage were his heart and lungs were. You never can tell i think the animal has alot to do with it sometimes.

kt-if you are having trouble loading hpxtp's check your bullet diameter. 451's load best, 452's with black hornaday sabot do okay but if like what happened to a friend of mine and the salesman sold him a box of 458's which did not load worth a darn. None load well after 3 or 4 shots though, run a wet patch and then a couple of dry ones for a quick barrel cleaning. You may be getting almost 1/2 inch holes with the power belts but skin movement could cause the entrance/exit holes to be covered part of the time. Larger exit sites mean easier trailing since there is more and easier blood loss. Just a thought.

I shot two yesterday and one ran about 20 yards and the other one dropped on the spot
