Here's a picture of my opening day buck in SW Wyoming. Saw this one the night before and left him alone in hopes that he would be there the next day. Hiked in and got in a position the next morning so we could glass the hill we saw him on. Grunted a small bucks within 30 yards early and had fun with them. Didn't know a mulie would respond to a grunt like that. Didn't see anything so I decided to climb the canyon wall and push the timber back down toward the other two guys I was hunting with. Got about two thirds of the way up, started shedding some clothes and saw him skirting the hill at the top of the canyon. Hit the grunt and he stopped instantly looking down to see where it came from. Ranged him twice at 353 and decided he was good enough to take the shot. One shot through the lungs put him down. Used a Remington 700 Classic in .300 Savage with a 130gr. Barnes XLC. It was about the extent of my range, but he was in a hurry and there wasn't much opportunity to get closer without losing him in the cedar trees. All worked out pretty well.

Thanks guys. Not doing a full mount on this one. Got one a little smaller a couple of years ago that had much more meaning to it and got a much bigger one last year and had both mounted. Just doing a European on this one. Probably hang it in the office.

Anytime you take a good Deer (or other big game animal) and your not keeping the cape, they bring around $45-$75 on the open market. Most Taxidermists are always looking for a good cape to replace a bad cape or do a competition mount or just a good looking mount to hand in their display area. Might even get you a free euro skull mount. grayghost

What does that sucker measure. It looks like it has good mass and main frame, but is weak and uneven up top.
I'm going looking for mulies next week so your score would help in the field.

grayghost,
Good point. I did save the cape on him for my taxedermist. I do on all of my animals as he is always looking for them and this one was a very good one with a big neck. He really appreciates it.
blktail,
He was 28" wide. Don't have a good score on him as I knew he wouldn't be close to book but my taxedermist said between 160 and 170.
