No more guns at Wal Mart?

Stopped at wally world yesterday and all the guns were gone. I thought maybe they were just rearranging the store but I mentioned it to a fella at work that lives in another town and he said theirs were gone too.
Anybody know whats going on?

Don't know for sure. But heard a rumor that they were pullling all guns from their stores. Something to do about law suits against any store selling guns that may be used in a crime amd they didn't want to be involved with that.

I read a news release that said WM was pulling guns from SOME stores where the market for them was small.

They don't carry every item in every store (like snow shovels in Miami or swimming pool supplies in Anchorage), so I really can't blame them for using their precious floor space for items that DO sell in a given locale.

The best place to look to see if they still carry guns is their website. They list all the guns that you can special order from the sporting goods department, and some of those guns are pretty nice. For instance, they have a Ruger MKIIVT in .25-06 that I have been thinking about buying, but that will not be for a little while.

My Brother and my wife work at wal-mart (told ya I was a redneck). Wal-Mart decided that guns were taking up valuable inventory space in most stores and weren't selling so they took the list of stores and sent ALL the guns to the TOP 600 stores in gun sales. The rest are out of luck. It sucks because our local wal-mart was #602 on the list. . . . .

I was in two different Wallys over the weekend....was told that corporate had pulled all of em. Still carry accessories n ammo....kinda a BS operation.

Many moons ago in a thread long gone, there was a discussion of Wal-Mart versus independent gun stores. The consensus opinion (decidedly NOT mine) was that WM sold things cheaper, so why buy at a Mom&Pop store?

I warned everyone then that the Mom&Pop stores wouldn't be able to stay open if nobody bought guns and stuff there. I was right; they're gone. Then I asked what all the bargain-hunters would do when WM stopped carrying guns.

That idea was scoffed at.

It's already happened here in middle TN. Only the super Walmart is selling guns. The other stores have removed them. grayghost

I heard about this a while ago. I guess I can't really blame Wal-Mart. Retail space is at a premium, even in the monster stores like Wal-Marts generally are.

the walmart in troy mi no longer has guns in stock nad the special order online is about a 1/4 of the guns they use to carry.
does this sound like some other big time retailer who slapped a good portion of its' customers in the face when they quit selling
guns and ammo? like maybe KMART.

it is even reflected in the magazines they carry, very few hunting and shooting mags.

in yuppyville usa guns and ammo and hunting is a no no.

these folks move out to the farm and huinting lands of old
to get in on fresh air and all of a sudden suburbia follows,and
newbies get sorta of excited when the shooting begins.
next thing you know walmart drops the guns and hun ting stuff
and the newbies are after local government to ban hunting and shooting.

heck here in mich. the state owned ranges can only operatye between 10am and 5pm because all those folks who bought the
houses built nearby need their quiet time.

watch out because the day is coming when our guns and shooting will be figment of our imaggination.

that said i will not visit or buy a single item at walmart.

By the way the answer is no. Most (not all don't ask me why) of the wal-marts that stopped carrying guns will NOT allow you to order them anymore either.

My last several guns were bought from mom and pop operations. . .

I looked at Wal-Mart's online special order selection and it has indeed decreased significantly. There weren't any more Browning o/u's on it and it seemed like there were a lot fewer rifles too.

I don't buy a lot from Wal-Mart as it is, but I don't really blame them for not carrying firearms anymore if they weren't making money on it. Kind of like how we do not blame Target for not selling firearms or ammunition. Target just made the decision not to do so before it opened its doors.

Lucky for us that Cabelas and Outdoor World are opening more and more locations. You can still buy firearms at those stores and the Cabelas I visited in PA had one heck of a selection. The Outdoor World by me in MD doesn't have a bad selection either.

Galyans used to have a pretty good selection too, but they were bought out by Dicks Sporting Goods and the selection has gone to crap.

Now, if Wal-Mart decided to take guns off of its shelves because it got pressure from some anti group to do so, then I would completely boycott it.

Other than sporting goods for fishing and hunting and auto maintenance stuff, there isn't much that I buy at Wal-Mart.

At one time, at least in Arizona and Texas in the 1980's, Target did sell firearms and ammo. They stopped carrying them several years ago. I suspect it was a bottom line $$$$-based corporate decision. Fear of liability lawsuits may well have had something to do with it.

Actually from what I understand it was all about some efficency ex-spurt they hired. He was the same one that told 'em if an item is too popular don't carry it cause then ya hafta pay somebody ta restock it. . . . . . . .

Sad part is apparently they have lisstened to this turkey.
