Ok, I have a question. A week or so ago, I was at a friend's house, and he has what appears to be several old winchester takedown shotguns, a model 12 and a model 1897(I think) pump gun. I'm not sure how to take either of them apart, but I'd be interested in learning. If anyone has any pointers, I'm all ears, so to speak. Thanks for any help!

Not really hard to do.. But hard to explain. Don't have time right now but after I get back home I'll type it out for ya. Gotta go look at a tractor.

gd, on the m97:
at the end of the mag tube there is a pin going thru the tube. slide the pin from one side to the other. it should be sticking out the bottom of the tube now. using the pin as something to hold onto, turn the mag tube counter-clockwise until it stops. Grab the foregrip and slide it forward. It may be pretty stiff if the gun hasn't been taken apart in some time. Sliding the grip forward will slide the mag tube out of the reciever. Now the whole barrel and mag tube assembly will turn counter clockwise from the reciever and the gun will be in two pieces.

Thanks for the info. Sounds fairly straightforward. I appreciate the info.

Well Winchester isn't belly up yet , just call them up and have them send you out a manual on the model 12. You'll recieve a photo copy of a complete manual that originally came with the gun.

I got them both apart, and back together without too much fuss. The 1897 was easier to do than the model 12, but both were fairly simple. Thanks for the input.
