My buddy in Campbell River, BC, has a son that is the #1 junior air pistol shooter in BC, #2 in Canada. They are having to travel more now and it is becoming somewhat of a financial burden. Does anybody out there know how one can access sponsors? This lad has the potential of being a world class shooter. He is one cool cookie. I took Dad and son on their first hunt for mulies last week and I saw the boy shoot his first deer like it was a bullseye on a target! I wish I had that kind of composure. Pretty amazing for an 18 year-old!

His sister is now a senior and is near the top too. Now she is thinking of getting serious.

Poor dad hasn't had a full weeks work in months.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing I would do is check the rules of whatever organization governs the sport. Some are pretty strict about the definitions of amateur and professional and a lot of those rules involve having sponsors and how money is raised.

Once that has been done, figure out the territory in which this young man is seen when he competes. Is it regional? Is it all over Canada? That will give you an idea of what companies you should target. If he is regional the bigger companies in that region are good targets. If he's national, then national companies would be better.

You might target the companies that make the guns he shoots. If he wears shooting gear, target those companies.

The main thing is to be sure that, however they go about raising the money, no rules are violated.

In the US I had a team with the Junior Chamber of Commerce and we did some local travel stuff and it was great. This was long gun compitition.
