Hi frieds!
I'm a newcomer here neither familiar 2 the "unwritten" rules nor 2 the ppl here, though I hope 2 become!:)
I'm a 50 yo russian with 30 yrs of huntin' experience in my country. As I'm after TROPHY hunt, grizzly bear is my dream. I'm planning my 2007 vacations now with the idea of goin' to Alaska or Canada. I'll appreciate any useful hints than could help me to make the right choice of territory, guide, time & budget.
U R welcomed 2 come 2 my country, 4 sure!;)

Glad to see there are still some hunters in Russia. I know there are quite a few on the taiga. What part of Russia do you come from? I have a lady friend that lives out near Lake Baikal. BTW you have pretty good use of idiomatic english...er ..American english that is. Quite a few guys on here from Alaska. Lived there for a time myself.

Huntin' 's not a hobby - that's a lifestyle!;-)

NW. St-Petersburg & 150 miles in any direction 2 hunt & fish!

I'm fluent in Russian too!:D

I've been thinking of a grizzly hunt myself, but I've been looking at Russia. It's cheaper for me to go there and hunt than it would be Alaska.

I doubt that.
No thing can be good AND cheap. Only EITHER-OR.:D
2 B serious:
Only Kamchatka bear can B compared wiht grizzly. The cost of hunt is abt $10,000 + flight + visa + tips. Xtra xpenses "don't-know-what" R 2 occur unavoidably - that's Russia. That makes the budget appr. equal 4 me. I hope the level of service is much higher in N.America.
Just reality that has nothin' 2 do with my patriotism.;)

Icequeen hunts black bear on a regular basis, but I don't think she dabbles in grizzly. I don't know if there are any grizzlies even in her area in Canada.
Hopefully, some of the guys from Alaska will be able to provide you with some really good answers. Me, I would like to go on a grizzly hunt too, but my wife isn't too keen about that, and will probably be less keen about it once our baby is born.

There are hundreds of options out there for you Husky. The Alaskan Peninsula, Kodiak Island and ABC Islands might be your best bet for a large bear.
Do an internet search on Brown Bear guides in Alaska and see what you come up with. Many of them have websites and you can even view recommendations.
PM me if you want specifics.
