coyote calling in a snow storm ???

It looks like my only day to hunt for the next 3-4 weeks is going to be a snow storm. I havent done this before... is it a major problem calling coyotes in the snow?... what can i do to make it more successful.

It kind of depends on the storm. I went out in a storm that was snowing pretty good but wind wasn't to bad and had a yote come right in. Be aware that while dogs normally just pop up, in snow they literally pop up, visability was bad and all of a sudden the dog was there(20yrd), makes it exciting. If its' real nasty I don't think the yotes will do much more than your family pet, curl in a ball in the recess of it's den. Try to get out when the storm breaks cause they'll be looking for lunch:D !

That's dead on. A nasty storm will have them holed up until it breaks, and then they'll be out en masse, cold and hungry. Either a food call or a territorial yote call will work after a storm.

Wind is the key to their activity during a storm. If it's windy, it's better to just forget the hunt - but be out there the minute it slacks off.

I'm a fair weather hunter, myself. But I have hunted and found them in foggy weather, quiet snowfall and bluebird weather, especially a warm snap after a storm.

We find wind is the major problem. The difficulty with snow or fog is the lack of visibility. The only sensory advantage humans have to use against coyotes is our superior vision, so take that away and we lose big. As was mentioned, however, coyotes will still come, and their sudden appearance at close range is a lot of fun.

Wind seems to make them more cautious, and it also seriously limits the range and direction at which calls can be heard. We just stay home if it's too windy.

Yea, Rocky`s a fair weather hunter, but the low temp`s acouple of years ago didn`t seem to bother him. He`s pretty tough for an old guy. ;)
