Are there any cheat cards one could use to identify the bugs on the water to match the hatch? I don't know all the bugs yet and I'd like something that I could use until I get to know them, or at least the ones in my area. Also, I've been looking for a cheat sheet to use to identify my flys. I can usually find one that looks right but I'd like to know that I'm using the right fly for the hatch. Thanks.

Tater, looks right is what matters- the fish don't know the names of the bugs, either.;)

I have not seen cheat sheets, but their are fly fishing books that go into detail on the hatches and have color plates showing the appropriate flies etc. and................ the correct terminology...................which is very important. I would imagine the same info is on the net somewhere, but I have not looked.
Fly-fishers can be quite stuffy and calling the 'bugs' by their right name is quite important, after all you don't want them to think you are a geek. ;)

I am an avid fly-fisherman so I am allowed to say that and get away with it. :D

No kiddin Jack. If the fly looks like the bugs floatin somewhat, Id say your usin the right fly.

Just be my guess..... :D

To be a bit more serious, I've been fly fishing since the 1960's, and I don't know the name of a single bug.
Well, ok, I know a few: mosquito, black fly, horse fly......
I DO know how to look in the water for the bug the fish are after, and match it. That's all you need to know, in my opinion.
Lots of Orvis groupies spew Latin names, but I don't think that helps you catch many fish, but, that's just my .02$.
