Man, the things you'd never see on dialup!

Playing around with my new broadband connection this morning, and find this.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6684891387885770526&q=f+15+one+wing&hl=en

It's a video of an Israeli pilot who has a mid-air collision, and then flies his F-15 ten miles to a safe landing...

...WITH NO RIGHT WING!

No freaking foolin.

Pretty cool video. I am a little surprised to find out that F-15's have a tail hook on them because they were not built to land on carriers.

Fabs,
Wasn't the F-15 what was featured in Top Gun?

I realize its Hollywood and they may have taken some liberty.

The tail hook is to grab the trap in case they have a major malfunction...such as losing your right wing. And, I don't remember seeing any F15s in Top Gun. They had F14s, A4s and F5s as far as I can remember.

Tater is correct. There were no F-15's in Top Gun. The premier plane in that movie was the F-14 Tomcat which has been retired. I think it was retired last year, and it was a real old plane. The F-18's are what replaced it, and while they are similar to the F-15, they don't have the speed of the F-15. Other than the brand new F-22 Raptor, I think the F-15 is the only American plane that can accelerate while going vertical.
