Rem 597 17hmr

I was wondering if anyone has or can comment on the Model 597 Magnum LS HB chambered in .17hmr. The only reason I am asking is I was at a gun shop with one in my hands, ready to buy it when the guy told me he can't sell it to me because they are prone to exploding. I am wondering if anyone else has heard of this or maybe had it happen. He was more then happy to hand me a bolt action worth more then twice as much once he said that though.
