And no I didn't get another gun. Yet. :D
I mentioned in another post about a friend of mine named Matt. He is a volunteer in the engine/rescue company I run with.
After hearing about all the red mist safaris we go on, he wanted to try and get some too. :D
So we set-up a time to go groundhoggin' and he would use my BDL Varmint Special in 222Rem.
After going to the range for familiarization practice, we hit the fields.
He got two and got hooked.
With my low head count for the season it wasn't easy letting him have all the fun so I did get to blutz the dead bodies with the 308. Pathetic I know but it was a worthy sacrifice. Strange, the one hog was a little jumpy when I hit it with the 150gr HP's. ;)
So we've been talking about a varmint rifle and caliber for awhile and the benefits of a 222, 223 or 22-250.
I had offered him the loan of one of my rigs when we go but he had gotten the fever and wanted a gun of his own.
We checked out rifles a few times at Cabelas (shopping for him was almost as much fun as getting my own rifle for some reason) and after looking at the Savage, Remmy and Howa varminters, he decided on a stainless gun (wise choice). And kept coming back to the Savage Model 12VLP in 22-250.
So last Saturday he made the plunge and is the proud owner of a new Savage with a Nikon 4.5-14 Buckmaster scope (looking forward to trying that scope later in Summer).
We mounted the scope tonight and loaned him a tall Harris bipod. The entire rig looks great.
He's going to buy some Remmy varmint ammo and get zero'ed in for some coyote hunting. We may have some snow in the future and there isn't time to make reloads.
I know, I love Remmys but Savage did something right with the VLP.
Can't wait for Summer... :p

Sounds like a nice setup. Just doesn't seem right though to have to wait all the way till summer.--tr:(
