I'm wondering if anyone knows of any 'manuals' or books on how to use the knife and hawk as weapons.....after watching 'The Patriot' and 'Last of the Mohicans', I gotta wonder where folks learned the skill of hand to hand combat with these weapons, or if it was just 'made up' as it went along. I'm not so much interested in learning how to throw these items, but how they are used in hand to hand combat.
Thanks in advance.

Mr. 16 gauge,

Excellent question. I am sure there was a lot of OJT (On The Job Training) on the Frontier! I know of no "Manuals" of how to use the knife and hawk. From my readings on close hand-to-hand combat, it seems the 'hawk was in the strong hand and the knife in the weak hand and then "go for it."

I agree, I would not throw my hawk since it may be badly needed quickly thereafter to bludgeon a big bad guy "up close and personal." Let's see what our resident Longhunters have to say.
