my buddy has an 835 ultramag turkey gun. He went to pattern it the other day and wasn't to impressed. Instead of the factory full turkey choke he's looking at a primos jellyhead. Has anyone tried this choke in a 835? what kind of shells worked best? Any other info would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I have been shooting turkeys with my 835 for years. Most of the time I shoot the Mossberg Ultifull choke with great success. I have been shooting Remington Premier Magnums 3 1/2" in #6 shot with fantastic success. My Mossberg extra full turkey choke shoots them with the same great pattern.
I have found the same style shells shoot great in my 3" Model 12 and my grandsons 20 ga.
Each gun and choke has it preference as to what it wants to shoot the best. In the days of lead one of my guns only wanted to shoot #5's with a good pattern.
How many different shells did he try in the gun?

multibeard,
He shot federals first. they were 5's but he said remington nitromagnum 3 inchers shot noticeably better than the federals. I gave him a few winchester high speed 5's to try , but he hasn't tried them yet. tonight he went and bought some notro 5's that were 3.5's to try tomorrow as well.

I have patterned my 835 Ulti-Mag with several different shot / shell combinations.
I get a really good pattern at 40 yards with the Federal - Mag Shock with Flight Control #5's - 3 1/2" with an Undertaker choke.
I got pretty good patterns with the Extra Full Turkey choke that came with my Mossy using both 3" Winchester Supreme #5's & 3 1/2" - #6's and also Federal Grand Slams in 3 1/2" - #6's.
It takes some shooting but you should be able to find a shell your gun likes pretty easily.

After speaking to those in charge at the 835 plant...I was told they designed the thing for use with #5 shot....but I suspect like anything else, you need to find what works best for you....this was the ticket for my 835.....as I have said in other posts. You must also shoot at a target set only 10yds from you. Find out where the group hits at this distance. It is like a 1" slug pattern at this distance but for those close shots, is needed ....I had to place the bead almost off the left side of the bird last year in order to connect with the main blast....I am glad I knew this or I would have been scratching my head asking how can I miss at that distance.....he was only 10yds ...POA/POI changes with each choke tube I try too...

I know what your saying skeeter, I know a guy who missed 3 longbeards 2 years ago at 20 yards. he was shooting heavy shot and it patterned awesome at 40 and 50 yards but he was shooting right over them at 20. of course he didnt find that out until after he missed those 3 longbeards.
2 weeks till turkey season
