Cabela's will start building a 80,000-square-foot store in Rapid City SD and hopes it will be open in Spring of 2008.

That's pretty cool! I've stopped at the one in WV on the way back from Annapolis a couple of times and beento the one up in MI once. These places are quite an experiince. I think there is one opening in NW Indiana in a couple of years or so.

Good, you'll like it.
My best friend works with the big dogs at Sportsman's Warehouse. They're building stores all over the country and I told him a great place for a store would be Rapid City, SD. For some reason or other they didn't put one there, I think they said the population base had to be over 100,000 people for them to consider it. I told them more people than that pass by on I-90 in a day. Their loss.

I love the one that they opened here in PA! It's only a 1 hour 15 minute drive up the interstate.
Be very careful as there is some sort of mystery involved where yer wallet weighs less upon leaving the store. ;)

They have a Sportsmans Wharehouse in Sioux Falls and it is a neat store and a little less expensive then the Cabela's

I'm kinda interested in watching the pricing between the two.
I haven;'t got the Cabells yet to compare.SW has a few good people and some that have no idea as to what they are doing.....
guess this is common though.LOL

I enjoy a visit to Cabelas as much as anybody, but for a trip to go buy stuff I prefer Sportsman's Warehouse. I can find stuff easier, the ailes have more room and I've never had to wait in line a half hour like I have at Cabela's.
The Sportsman's Warehouse in Sioux Falls that you mention Nulle is the place I usually load up on ammunition & annual supplies.
The Scheel's store in Sioux Falls is impressive too, but I don't like working my way around the store to the outdoor dept. upstairs. Although it is worth the trip there to see the life sized elk mount upstairs.
The Cabalas in Mitchell is nice and not as crowded as the others. I stopped there a couple years ago on the same trip I visited the Sheep Museum in Dubois, WY and the sheep display at Cabelas was far more impressive.
Apparently Sportsman's Warehouse likes to be near a large population center since their marketing style isn't to be an impressive store. Just a practical place to buy stuff. They aren't going to get people driving there special just to see the place like Cabela's does, but they don't have the overhead either. Whatever works, I like both places.
