Ohio Coyotes?

Anyone kill any Ohio coyotes lately?? are there enough in Ohio to hunt regulary? when i get back and out of the Marine Corps i would like to find a few good spots and a good hunting buddy to enjoy some varminting as well as gimme some advice on the finer points of coyote hunting... Catfish you hunt Coyotes right? how do they fair where you live? I live In Dover Ohio, thats about 20minutes south of Canton

If you need a coyote hunting partner, look me up when you get back. I live in Cuyahoga Falls, not too far north from where you will be in Dover. I have never intentionally hunted coyotes, though I have shot plenty while hunting deer amd other animals on private property here in the CVNP area. I think I could get into coyote hunting per se, so let's give it a whirl. There are plenty around NE OH to keep busy.

I spent several days this winter with some guys running them with dogs. If you have at least 1 fairly good dog you can average at least 1 kill for every day hunting. I know of 4 that were killed within a mile of my house and 8 within 2 mile. I`m convinced that here in Ohio you`ll kill alot more coyotes with dogs than with calls. Most of those killed while I was hunting whit the guys were killed with shotguns and number 4 bucks. BUT, there are pleanty of them around here. Seems like the more we kill, the thicker they get.

sounds good to me fellas, we gotta give it a try, im looking to get a nice coyote rig with cammo, calls and rifle, but maybe i should adjust it alitte bit, or see whats more productiv first...

It`s easy to get enough guns to do what you need done, but you can never have to many. :D I hunted with acouple of different groups of guys that run dogs. I group uses almost all shotguns and the other abt 60% rifles and 40% shotguns. The thing about dogging them is that you almost never get a standing shot and hitting a running coyote at 200 or 300 yrds. with a rifle is pretty tough. When you get home we`ll have to get together and I`ll show you what I have that I have had some sucess with and give you some better ideas of what you think will work for you. If the guys are running their dogs you`ll be able to see how slick those coyotes can be, and how to out smart them.

Central Indiana here but the land layout is the same.

Nice yote hunting here with calls in the dead of winter when they are hungry. Dogs not as popular, We do night hunting here in central indiana and some stalking creekbanks and hills in sun and windbreaks. I have jumped yotes 5 yards away before during afternoon nap's. Yotes real active at night here Sleep in the daytime.
