Thinking on going GERMAN again

I finally got a DoD job, and boy is it A. Rough B. 'Who you know' C. Favoritsm heavy. And it has a five year rule, with fluxing hours. I go from 20 hours to 30-35 hours on a whim.

They change the schedule with less than 12 hours notice, and unless I am on vaccation I don't get weekends off, making hunting not possiable. And my time off never is the same as my wife and kids. After not seeing them in the states for 14 months, I don't like never seeing them now.

My old German boss called outa the blue and asked if I would like to come back........................even after all I went through to get with the US Forces.

It would mean full insurance, regular vaccation (6 weeks a year), and always off for Christmas and New Years day. But I would lose my APO privliges, and have to go back to strict German hunting equipment, which means EXPENSIVE!

But with my job now I can't use what I already have.......catch 22.

I am not in the know as to what the german regs are but if it makes your life better go with the old job.

Whichever gives ya more time with the wife and kids is the way to go. As morbid as it sounds, ya never know when someones number is gonna come up. To look back thinkin I wish I had spent more time with ( insert wife, child) or yer family wishing their Pop/husband was there more often is not high on the list for most of us.

I had a German hunting lincense when I was there in the army and did hunt alittle, but it was a real hassel to get to hunt there. Here in the states I live on a farm and carry a rifle and or a shotgun in the truck at all times and when nothing else is in season I shoot groundhogs.
I also quit a job and went to work for less than 1/2 of what I was makeing to be home and able to to shoot any time I want. I don`t shoot every day, but there is a gun in my hand every day. I don`t know what your situation is, but can tell you money isn`t everything.
Only you can make up your mind if the money is worth it or not and we all need money to live, it`s just how much, and I`ve learned that I can be happier getting by on less.

Jon, your row seems to be a tough one to hoe.

I won't offer advice except to say "Do what you know is right."

All the "This but not that or that but not this" arguments will tie up your thinking forever. Deep down, you know what's right for you. Do that and your life will improve.

Ya Jon, the 5 year rule is BS -- so if you plan on definitely staying longer that is certainly one thing to consider. If you did stay DoD, you'd have to get extensions, which isn't all that hard but depends on your bosses. You'll have to consider your options, I'm sure you could move up Perm and get a regular hours job, but it'd take a bit of time. All the best whichever way you go, WH Dom.
