Have a 98K with 24" barrel chambered 6.5-06 . I assume with the AI you are refering to Ackley Improved. If I can be of any assist-ance give me a holler.
I have had this rifle for several years and enjoy hunting with it,either deer or varmints.

Ackley`s hand book vol. 11 has data for the 6.5-06. As his data was almost all alittle hot this should be a good place to start. He has data for H-380,4895, 4831, H-570, 4350, H870. What bullet weights and what powder are you going to try first?

Yes Iwas refering to the Ackley Improved with the 40 degree shoulder. For now I have loaded some fire forming loads with some 100gr BT and some 129gr SST's. I have loaded these with some H4831, H4350, RL19, RL22 and some Imr 7828. But until I some formed brass I will have wait too what looks the best. But I will be looking you up for some help later. Thanks

Catfish,
I plan on hunting with the 129gr SST's,130gr TSX's, and the 130 Scirocco II's depending on what I am hunting. As far as powder right now I wave what is listed above. I can't get H570 or H870 anymore I'm sure they quite making both.
The Nosler manual has data for that cartridge.

I have quite a few of the Nosler manuals and also the new Hornady manual has data for the 6.5-06. I was looking for peoples pet loads and personal data.

Rumluver,
To bad your not closer, I`ve got 8 lbs. of H-870 in the vault. I bought it for my .22-6mm but the best I can do with it is 3,200 with the 80 gn. Serria. I`ve got the 80 gn. Serria to 3,550 with RL-22, so the H-870 is alittle to slow for what I want, but I`ll probibly shoot it up anyway. You are right, it has not been made for several years now, and nearther has the 570.
Ackley only list 2 loads for the 129 gn. bullet and those are both with 4350 powder. He list 53 gn. at 3,015 and 54 gn. at 3,100, but these are with the 6.5-06 not the Imp. round.
Accurate Arms is still selling AA8700 powder, which in my experience is extremely similar to Hodgdon 870.

Just happens jack that I have a can of AA8700 sitting on my shelf. I will have to see how much to use. Any guesses or data anyone.
Every time I have seen data listed for both AA 8700 and H 870 in the same cartridge, the loads listed have been within 1 to 1.5 grains of each other.
In the 264 Winchester, where I have used both powders, they are essentially the same.
I've always suspected they are the same powder packaged by different companies- but keep in mind, that's just my hunch, not hard data.
Were it my rifle, in an 06 sized case, I would cut H 870 data 2 grains and work up, if I couldn't find data for AA 8700. Even if they are the same powder, there are lot to lot variations, as you know.

also for fireforming it works great with 25/06 cases, just take new cases and prime, add a moderate plain 6.5/06 powder charge, and seat a 6.5 cal boatail bullet in them and fire, out pops a perfectly formed 6.5/06 AI.

That 's a good idea with the 25-06 brass. I necked down some .270 brass I had sitting around it took alot of trimming but it worked out fine. I'm moderate powder charges and some 100gr Nosler BT's I had around also. I also use reloaders nest when looking for data. Thanks
