I walk as much as i can. I have a sciatic nerve in my left back and hip that sometimes drives me up the wall. Some days it doesn't bother me at all and other days it fells like 10,000 skeeters sitting on my hip and thigh all sucking blood at the same time. Just stings.
Course now if I take the dog along he makes sure I keep moving. I have been known to be following the dog and be bouncing off trees and rocks as he merrily pursues a rabbit or a tweety bird. I get no respect. :( If he sees the game first I'm in deep trouble if I don't check him up before he gets a wild hair.
Except for cross country skiing all or I should say most of my hunting is stand hunting, I'm 70 + and really don't have a lot to prove anymore so I just take it easy and enjoy myself more. I think I like this alot better than the days when I was searching for the 30 point buck.
Do you Turkey hunt? When I was traveling back and forth to Ohio I did quite a bit of it. We have a good Turkey population in ND the only problem is they are attached to some farmers close up property. Of course the farmers are happy, they get all the turkeys they want.
Have a good one.
Best wishes, Bill

I've been on a workout program for about a year and a half. I usually hit the excercise bike for 20 -25 minutes, and use the weight machines for a bit too. At least 3 times a week, usually 4. It's helped tremendously with deer and turkey seasons. And I'm in a lot better shape than when I started.;) Especially since a lot of the places I hunt have some pretty serious hills.

Oner year ago, I weighed 240 pounds. Now I weigh 176! I lost over 60 pounds by changing what I eat and working out! I used to do 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight but now I am doing all weights! You are right about feeling a lot better! I am 37 years old and feel like I am 25!

I started riding my bike pretty hard last summer and it has carried over to this year. In fact, I am back to racing too. I went from 158 lbs. to 147 and I feel really good now. In fact, my waist size is back to what it was in high school even though I was only 130 lbs. in high school. I seriously doubt I can get back to that weight ever again in my life without having to be hospitalized.
I might start working on weights as fall gets closer, but I'll have to see how things go.

No elk hunt for me this year, so no workout program. Years that I go hunting in the mountain states I run 4 miles a day starting in June. I'm still fighting for air when I get above 7,000' elevation.
My big trip this fall is a waterfowl hunt in Saskatchewan, so I'm hoping I won't need to hoof it up too much.
