This is mainly for GOB. He can't seem to find any yard sales that have good stuff. These weren't actually in the yard sale..well some of it was. The guns I asked about. Bought a nice little Winchester M-42 pump 410. original with about 60% finish for 450 bucks..a new in box Colt Diamondback 4 inch Blue 22 for 350(gotta love them Colts) and a fair little Winchester M-1906 22 pump. Only about 60% but nice bore and otherwise really clean for 150 bucks and then I got a whole bunch of factory ammo in 30-06(3 bx) 243(2 bx) 280(2 bx) 3 boxes of factory 35 Whelen and 4 boxes of 7MM Rem Mag...as well as at least 800 rds of various caliber once fired brass. a couple hundred 22 hornets were in that batch too... as well as a couple hundred once fired 222 Rem. Paid a nice 55 bucks for all of that. Didn't quibble on any of the ammo...but I got the brass cheap. Heck the ammo was priced at 2 bucks a box though...and tonight I got another Dillon 650 loader with all the bells and whistles, case feeder included. The price WAS right.

Very nice. Yep you are deffinantly going to have to start another shop.
I got a 1950s model King somethinganother stainless kitchen sink WITH the metal cabinet (all of which is moveable) for $0. Will be very nice for a deer camp or an outdoors kitchen area close the the barbque pit since I can still hook up the thing (unhooked it myself so that they didnt cut it away from the walls) either just to water or put a gravity feed off a 55 gallon drumb (for deer camp)
Best I could do.

You have to work at finding things. I alsways ask at yard sales especially when it is the elderly. They quite often want to dispose of guns and really don't know how. So I can be the disposee or er or whatever:D
I also finally talked the guy down on the custom 35 Whelen. Made on an Argentine Mauser by a fellow named Goens from Montana. Wood is fairly plain...but very nicely done. If I keep it I have ammo for it too....but the guy gave me 175 rounds of new and once fired brass

Yep thats for certain. You have to have the nose for it and you have to ask about it. You don't ask you won't know. My problem lately has been that I just have not had the time off to go hit up the local sales.

Skeet,
You must have an honest face and a great line of BS. :)

Definitely an honest face. No BS. Just ask..pay a fair price...or what they ask for it if it is ok. Also when I do a gun show... I put a fair price on the guns I get rid of and they really do go. The last show I put a sign on the table. Said my prices are fair and FIRM! Sold the heck out of the ones I wanted to get rid of. If the price is right people will buy thngs...as well as sell 'em.

GOB,
Does cleaning out a safe and finding a gun you do not remember every buying or owning count as a good day? Well if it does, I found two TC Contenders I can not for the life of me recall ever owning, in the bottom of my bench safe, where I had not been for 20+ years. It was like Christmas an didn't cost me a dime... :)

Found an old Martini that had been converted to 12 ga at a yard sale. Operated fine but I didn't buy it. Guy wanted 150 bucks for it. but I did buy a few things that were a fair price I guess. Got more than 40 lbs of mostly Winchester 9mm once fired brass. All cleaned and bagged.. more than 750 45 230 gr FMJ bullets 600 44 cal 240 grJSWC 1700 .224 55gr FMJ 350 62 gr .224 bullets and 150 55 gr .224 soft points. Got them for a pretty fair price too. Know anybody that needs 1000 .224 55 gr FMJ's?? Cheap! I'm gonna shoot the rest.

Skeet,
You might want to rethink the big frame Martini and return today for it. The Martini action is a 60k action. If the action's surfaces are nice and clean, no pits, the action is worth more than $150. It would be a snap to rebarrel to a 303 range cartridge.
I do Martini Conversions. Below is my 357 SM gun.

If the gun is clean you got you a 500 buck gun for a l'il less than 200:cool: All ya have to do is ask.:D
Rapier. I know the action is strong etc but the whole thing isn't worth the cost to buy and either try to sell or rebarrel. At least to me. If you were close I'd tell ya where it is. The market for such a gun in this area is somewhat slim. A friend back east has a Martini in original condition and caliber... Neat to shoot. Slower than a 45-70. Shooting at a 200 yd sheet of steel gong at the range...it was boom.........clang. When the light was right you could see the bullet occassionally. Wouldn't want to get hit with that ol' punkin ball though:eek:

Yep,
I was a range master for over 20 years and would put on a silhouette match every month for rimmed cartridges in rifles, using long range pistol silhouette targets, out to 200 meters. Off hand only. It gave the guys with closet queens something to do with their bangers. One guy owned an as issued big bore Martini and he was a handful to go up against. That Martini lock time is quick and the original cartridge was very accurate.

But I did find a few things at an estate sale. What I did buy was a really nice T-C Contender with 4 bbls. 357 mag in 10 inch...7MM TCU 14 inch and a 14 inch 35 Remington bbl...and the other is a 28 ga bbl made by a company named D A Van Horn. Marked 28 ga Parabellum as it is 16 inches and is straight rifled. What I didn't buy and is still for sale is a Colt SAA in 32-20 5 1/2 inch with a Bowen Quick draw rig(beautiful work BTW) and a companion Wichester M-92 32-20 with 24 in octagon bbl. The Wichester is in about 50% condition but the Colt is at least 85% Blue and Case colors. Haven't seen a 1918 Colt in such condition ever. Not a refinish either. Just too rich for my blood. Guy wanted 4500 for the pair:eek: Offered him 4000 but he said no.

Skeet, M12, Simmons Rib,FC,12Ga, go about 85-90%...dude asked

The price isn't too bad. If it is only 85% on the blue(a refinish blue BTW since it had a rib put on) If you could get it for 350 that would be good. If not try the compromise of 375. Plain field wood?? If original Winchester checkered wood buy it for 400. Nice good shooting guns. Some are over 90 yrs old now. I have an original trap made the first year for the vent rib(1919) and it is still a good shooter. BTW if ya buy it send it to Briley and have screw chokes put in. Make it a really versatile gun then. :D

Field wood......the Simmon is a neg, I know......don't really need it. I'll mull it around.
Thanks,

I missed the reply. The simmons isn't too big a deal. There are 1000's of them out there with those. Offer the guy 350 and buy it. Or I'll take it if you don't want it.
Now I did another gun sale this weekend. Not a yard sale but I bought factory 9mm ammo of all types for 3 bucks a box...and got bullets for reloading for 2 and 3 dollars per 100. Speer and Sierra 357's 158 gr HP's 7mm bullets 2 bucks a box same for 30 cals. Also got once fired 223 brass. 3000 rounds for 5 bucks(like I need more). Box of Remington 30 Rem for 3 bucks. Also got a bunch of the Speer plastic cases and bullets for 38 cal and a couple of boxes of the plastic 45 bullets(any body need some?)... Didn't need them but the box had a couple boxes of 44 shot cups for snakes and a box of 357 same thing. Only bought one gun although I should have bought more. Got a Smith 22 semi auto with a red dot sight for a very good price. Nice condition too.:D Let a Remington 700 ADL in 243 with K-4 dot scope sell for 175 and didn't buy it. I IS a goober sometimes! But I already have a couple of 243's

Skeet,
Sounds like my #1 pass for $800. It had a $600 scope on it.....just a blonde moment.
A 700 short action, standard bolt face, for 175, with parts to sell, yeh, well.......:D

I do know about those blonde moments...cause I is ...blonde. But I don't have as many as my blonde daughter Jennifer:D   That K-4 with a dot was worth 50 bucks or so and it was in Redfield mounts and rings. I also got a little baggie with some parts in it for 3 bucks. Had a Buehler mount and rings and a set of Pachmayr grips for my little 36 Smith. Only thing is, I don't know what the mount fits as I don't have a Buehler mount chart. Just has an S on the base. Oh well, It'll go on ebay or something tonight. Well anyway I am loading 12 ga shotgun shells right now. I got a 12 lb can of 700X, 2000 wads, 2500 209 primers and 18 bags of shot at a yard sale...for an idea...the powder cost 25 bucks...and the shot 6 bucks a bag.Primers were 15 bucks for all and the wads were free. After using up the primers etc I'm gonna have a lot of powder left over. Gotta figure out what to use it for....and I don't even use the 12 ga very often...oh well.....wish I could use the 700X in the 20 ga...but except for a few hgh pressure loads it just doesn't work in that very well...45 auto maybe
Skeet, on Beuhler mounts, I believe the S stamp is for short action. Most likely a mount for the 700 ADL you passed up.

Just what I needed to hear. Actually it is for a short action but not certain what rifle. I have a Rem I'm gonna try it on today. That way when I sell it I can tell 'em what it is. Not dissin ya man. Just messing around. Thanks for the info. I thught the S might have meant Savage. I'll let ya all know if it fits a Rem. Then I might keep it. Strong well made rings etc for certain.

700x will work in the 45 and the 44 mag for sure. It makes a very plesant cast bullet load.

GOt a rem 870 express today, 2-3/4-3 inch, 28inch vent rib barrel threaded for choke tubes, only had a mod choke tube though.
In like new condition, can tell it's been used if you know where to look for normal wear and tear, but otherwise looks the way it did coming out of the box. ( and even then there is very little wear on it)
walked out with it for $200, might not be the best deal ever, but I am happy with it :)

You did ok too. Not a bad price and no paper work or tax. Not bad. That's part of what I like about yard sales and auctions. No paper work....at least here in Wy. For handguns at an auction you just have to be a Wy resident. and 21. Long guns are not even thought of. I bid on but didn't buy a Husqvarna Mauser in 6.5x55 today. Sold for 175 and was in really good(exc) condition. Those Scandinavians keep their rifles in great condition. Don't know if the price was right but I really am not into military stuff too much

anything in 6.5x55 seems to be a good firearm.
i've seen a _very_ nice husqvarna sporter, looks like a factory rifle as far as i can tell at a local shop but pricetag is $800, and I do believe it's new not used.
I'd like to get it, but right now i just cant work up the "i want" bad enough to swing it :)
