Hello!

I need some help: I have a Marlin 1895GS and I want to buy a scope for it. I was looking at the Leupold and Nikon scopes, but not sure how to choose one. It will used for deer and elk.

Any suggestions? Other brands? I don't know anything about scopes so please be as specific as possible!!
Thanks

You want something low powered in the range of a 1X4 Leupold or some other quality scope cause that little Marlin lets ya know when ya touch her off. My full size Marlin lets me know too. I use a ghost ring(peep) sight on it for Black Timber elk(soon) although I do have a Leupold 1X4 variable. If I need a scope I'll use it or get one of my other guns like the 35 Whelen I bought not long ago. Shoots good.

might look at the scout scope setups with low powered scopes be just the ticket, Extended eye relief scopes

I'd agree with the others that something in the 1-4 power is most appropriate for that use and cartridge.
Leupold and Nikon are excellent scopes. So are Burris, Pentax, Weaver Grand Slams and the top line Bushnells.

This link has almost all the info on scout setup's and marlins lever actions. I think for the range of that rifle this is the ticket.

For that rifle you will really need no more than a 2X scope. If you want to spend more money a 1 x 4X would be alittle nicer. I killed a deer last fall with my muzzle loader at 289 ydrs, lazered, with a 2 1/2 X scope and had all the point of aim I needed. I also use only Leupold scopes

I would agree that a fixed power 2 1/2x scope would be great on an 1895. Problem is finding a 2 1/2x.. they are scarce, and 1-4x is common.

Are we talking about the Leupold FX-II 2.5x28mm Scout? If so I found one for $260 on the web. Is this the one you guys are talking about?

Jmarriot that web site is very good!

Yeap that is the best of the scouts you can buy . (IMHO) Long generous eye relief. 9.3 inches of recoil relief.

Might see what adding the german #1 post would cost as then it is perfect. Most custom shop scopes are available with the german #1.

There is a far cheaper version available from the China. NCSTAR.
You might see if the whole scout scope concept is your cup of tea with one of these. If you don't like it for the price you can put it on a pistol. I set up two of these scopes on .44 mag rifles and they have held up for 100 rounds so far. But these are not 1895gs rifles. I have one on a contender pistol in .223 and it works well. Still have 8.7 to 10 inches of eye relief.

Might as well also give up the best supplier of marlin accesories also. WWG is great stuff. I like the laser/light sight and the happytrigger. They also have scout setups and and ghost rings.
