LONG range muzzeloader

I have been dreaming up a new kind of long range muzzeloader. To build it first I take a 32inch .50 BMG barrel and cut the muzzel brake and chamber off. Next I attach the barrel to some sort of receiver and add an igntion system using .22 blanks for primers, put the entire assembly on a McMillan custom stock, add a Timney trigger and, viola you have the longest range muzzeloader ever built. To fire, pull back the striker and put a .22 blank in, drop seven 50 grain Pyrodex pellets down it folowed by a saboted .45 cal bullet, then let'er buck:D

Only problem is the .22 blank won't be hot enough to ignite the pellets...

for what you are thinking, you will probably need a magnum rifle primer at minimum.

There has been pretty much what is being talked about here done with (if I remember right a 32 S&W short case used for the priming. Don't remember the particulars but suppossedly it works pretty well. Might have been White that did it.

if you read the history of target shooting, you'll find that in the late 1800's they were still using Muzzle loaders even as the black powder cartridge guns like Remington rolling block or sharps came into being. Such as the 800 to 1000 yd matches at Creedmoor long island in 1876.

Such guns used a "false muzzle" to guide the bullet into the rifling when loading, and absolutely HUGE barrels, like 2" across the flats. I've seen things like that

there are still folks experimenting with such things, go visit a club with an active black powder group...

A good 1-18" twist barrel of maybe 30" and whether inline or caplock with a 500 grain bullet will easily meet your goal.

Or... buy a volunteer, whitworth or Rigby or a properly set english sporting rifle... 1000 yards a piece of cake... and musket cap ignition works just peachy.
