Thought this is a little like what would happen to you

YOU'VE GOTTA LOVE DRUNK PEOPLE

A man and his wife were awakened at 3:00 am by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.

"Not a chance," says the husband, "it is 3:00 in the morning!"
He slams the door and returns to bed.

"Who was that?" asked his wife.

"Just some drunk guy asking for a push," he answers.

"Did you help him?" she asks.

"No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is pouring rain out there!"

"Well, you have a short memory," says his wife. "Can't you remember about three months ago when we broke down, and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself!"

The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain.

He calls out into the dark, "Hello, are you still there?"

"Yes," comes back the answer.

"Do you still need a push?" calls out the husband.

"Yes, please!" comes the reply from the dark.

"Where are you?" asks the husband.

"Over here on the swing," replied the drunk.

Yeah, I heard this one before. Kind of reassures my teenage decision not to drink.

O.k., didn't see that punchline coming.

I don't drink much either, but I've known people who drink to excess, and some of them were like that.

Hey, easy there.

I used to resemble that remark. I suffered an injury where I turned about 1/8th of my brain into Vanilla pudding and was taking numerous medications to correct seizures. Not being one to follow directions I mixed the Meds with booze.

I became an alcholic. After a short attitude adjustment session with my kids I became aware, very, of my condition. They told me to shape up or ship out. So I sought Medical help.

It was one heck of a process. Tater would know what I'm talking about but the rest of you don't need to know and would be horffied. I was still in the Military at the time.

I'm still an alcoholic but now I know when to stop. I realize that is a contradiction but true. Besides that I
no longer have the need or want to drink myself into oblivion.

Can you be a drunk and straighten yourself out. You bet your patootie you can but it takes resolve. I did it but I had the help of my family and comrades.

Best wishes, Bill

I at one time drank to excess also. Not an alcoholic but just drank. Fabs will understand me when I say a drove home from work many evenings from Severna Park to Chestertown on the eastern Shore of Md across the bay bridge. I remember leaving work and getting home and nothing in between. 60 miles at least once a week in that condition. legally drunk most of the other days...and I wasn't even old enough to drink legally. Quit one day when I realized that I was doing something that could be very dangerous to other people. But also understand I was not a belligerant drunk either...very happy in fact! Never used drugs or medication either. Hate taking pills. Not a teetotaler but really don't drink very often. Hardest thing I ever had to do was quit smoking. Been 10 yrs and every now and then I get a whiff of a cigarette and I'd love to have it. Lasts about 10 seconds though and I put it out of mind. Had a "friend" who quit drugs(all kinds) and he told me that quitting smoking and chewing tobacco was harder than drugs. Only reason I put this up on HC was I could see Fabs answering the door and going through all these motions. He's a nice guy and this is something that could/would happen to him. Knowing him...he'd probably give the guy a push, too!!:D :D

BTW Fabs, don't get a big head just cause I said you were a nice guy. My opinion could change in a very short time!!!:D :D :p

Ah, your opinion is always changing with the wind, so no need to worry about me getting a big head, but thank you for the compliment anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I don't abstain completely from alcohol, but I have never had a buzz from it. Once in a while I'll have a glass of wine with dinner, or some cordial after dinner, but that is about the extent of it.

For me, coffee is my thing. I have a Tassimo machine with an entire lower china cabinet drawer full of coffee. I have three different kinds of espresso, along with cappucino, latte, french vanilla, columbian, french roast, house blend, etc. You name it, I probably have it. Oh yeah, the two side cabinets are stuffed with coffee too, but those packages are the unopened ones that are waiting to replace any that I run out of in the main drawer. Tonight, I had some apple turnovers with a cappucino. Now, it might just be time for a french roast before I get back to work.

By the way, my aversion to alcohol was from seeing my dad and brothers drinking massive quantities of it. The only time I didn't think my dad was the greatest guy in the world is on some occassions when he was drunk as can be. He said and did things that he never would have done if it weren't for the alcohol. Alcohol also managed to get my brothers in a good amount of trouble, and continues to get one of my brothers into plenty of trouble. On top of that, when I am in Court for criminal matters, you would be astonished to see how many of those matters are related to alcohol, and I'm not talking about DUI's.
