Tradegdy in Quebec

We just learned that Avery Pro-Staffer Josh Leger was tragically killed yesterday while hunting in his home province of Quebec. Details are sketchy at this point, but apparently someone in an automobile fired a rifle at his decoys hitting Josh in the head.




He was out hunting with friends and clients and someone thought his spread of snow geese was an actual flock that had landed. The guy pulled over and crawled his way into the field and took one shot with a .22 rifle. Hitting Josh right above the eye. His partner heard the whistling of a flying bullet and then a tiny impact, asked Josh if he had heard. When no answer came, he turned around and realise Josh had been hit. The rest of the story is irrelevant, Josh is dead.

This is just awful. I heard about it this morning, and did a post on the GSI blog about shooting safety and the consequences of not practicing it. What a senseless tragedy.

That is very sad.

I was calling coyotes north of here one morning and about got shot the same way. I had snuck up a brushy ditch about 100 yrds from a gravel road and set up to call. Appearantly I had something responding, but hadnt seen it yet. Some toothless inbred road hunting****** skidded gravel and shot right over my head.

They should hang the worthless bastard that killed him.

My condolences and prayers for the family. Not news anyone likes to hear, especially since it sounds like a fluke. Number one is identify your target and don't let your eyes and mind play tricks on what you really should be seeing, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

A guy sees "geese" in a field while driving by and sneaks out with a rifle for a shot? Unless Canada laws are much different from ours, thats criminal, all the way around. Road hunting, pure and simple.

You can't hunt migratory birds with a rifle in Canada. We have had a decoy shot before, luckily we were in the pits when it happened. If a person can't tell if something is a goose or a decoy' let alone if there is someone setting them up they shouldn't have a gun....period.

That is bad, real bad. Shot in an open field, in a blind, by an idiot..... best thoughts to family and friends. Not much will help, I feel bad for them.

We here in W. Pa just had a fellow shot while sitting in his tree stand archery hunting on the first day of squirrel season. I guess it was at the crack of dawn and someone thought he looked like a tree rat....yea right....they know what kind of vehicle the guy was in but as of yet....not caught...he should never be able to own a gun or hunt again....accidents don't just happen....they are caused.....anyhow...you have to watch out for own butt because no one else will do it for you.....sad sad day for them all
