Rattus, I thought I would get this into a new forum. maybe a lot of people would like to read this. My question is. Why are they trying to eradicate all the game animals in Hawaii?? If you hunt private land do they rent the property out to hunters or groups of hunters? Any waterfowl hunting in Hawaii? Always interested in waterfowl!!

Hi Skeet... :)

The animals in Hawaii are all introduced and the environmentalists here want to return the islands to a Pre-contact (meaning western contact in some cases, polynesian contact in others.)

You have members of the USFWS also parroting this garbage as well. I say garbage, because they think that evolution has stopped with them.

Canada Geese have come to Hawaii and some have nested. Good deal right? Nope, they will destroy the eggs or babies so that they don't breed with the Nene. Now, I ask you, is this right? They say that what is endemic or indigenous, got here without the aid of man. Well hello... how did the goose get here.... wasn't on a 757 for sure.

We had a sealion arrive here... on its own.. but would they leave it alone? Nope... drug its tail back to Kalifornia...

This is a much longer topic than can be had in this little thread..

There is some private hunting in Hawaii at pretty reasonable prices on Molokai, Lanai, and Big Island for goats, sheep, and deer.

Aloha...

I don't know about any private hunting on Kauai, but I have a friend who can maybe hook you up with something, but Maui is just a boatride from Lahaina to Lanai... and from there... its $275 a day unguided and $750 fully guided... three deer or unlimited sheep goats... 1 buck and two does.

Ulupalakua Ranch has some deer hunting, but it's not real cheap I'm told, but I don't know for sure. Molokai is about the best for Bow hunting you can find where there is an abundance of deer. Lanai has the best deer tag system in the world... $50 and unlimited deer in specific areas for the whole year.. :)

Ya'll wanna see something absolutely SICKENING??

These Pics below were just taken by my Butcher / Caterer friend on his hunt to Santa Rosa Island about 30 miles from Santa Barbara off the California Coast.

Our fearless leaders, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein have presented and followed through with the taking of this Island as a Nat'l Park. Because of this, they want killed, everything non native. Right now under private ownership, it will cost you $5000 to shoot one of these bucks.

Look at 'em!!! These are all trophy class Kaibab Mule Deer. They will be erradicated completely in the next few years.

Yup that's that's the way they operate. It should be a requirement that parks and such remain as they ARE not as they were.. for they'll never get back and we lose the enjoyment of the property.

When I worked on Kauai, I went on many chicken hunts(archery). I guess you can get used to roosters crowing all night but I couldn't in the three years I worked there. The chickens are from the fighting chickens that have escaped over the years. The only way I could eat one was Pilipino style with green papaya.

Some number of years ago... I don't even remember when, 1997 or 98 somewhere there, they was talking about those offshore islands becoming a park. There used to be, or maybe still is, a hunting newspaper run by a couple that covered california and a couple of other states.

They gave me the names of a number of hunting or shooting groups in California that the Hawaii Hunting Association wrote to about what the Park system will do to any non-native animals. Only one group responded to my letter and basically told me that there is no way in the world the park is gonna eradicate anything from any Islands. So... thinking to myself.. "suit yourself big boy" I went back to trying to keep what hunting we have here still here.

Incrementally, they will take away from you from till there is nothing left.

I have a powerpoint presentation about hunting and conservation that in the middle of it, I interjected a little article from the Nature Conservancy that they published in Hawaii. This has escaped our masters here with the Hunter Ed Program in that I didn't highlight the contradictions like I do for class, but it points out just how most of what goes on in the environmental world is just words, not science and they HAVE to be challenged.

Anyone want a copy of this is welcome to it as well....

The things I miss when I don't visit everyday. Fiji- you mentioned Kauai or Maui, must've been Kauai because them roosters left a lasting impression hehehe. Rattus- yep, no private "outfitted" hunting on Kauai. You need to have a friend, or a friend of a friend... No one mentioned pigs... coolest thing to hunt are pigs! Oh and those goats on Lanai... no limit, shoot em all! There were "5" about 6 years ago that got loose. Back in the late 70's early 80's goats were eradicated from Lanai and weren't seen until these "5" surfaced a few years back. I got a buddy from Colorado who I've brought hunting a few times in Hawaii (Kauai, Big Island, and Lanai) and he really like the mouflon sheep. said sheep was a once in a lifetime chance in the mainland.

Hi Fiji.... Please share it with anyone you wish, just please credit us somewhere as I left you a copy that was "editable" so you could make it fit your circumstances where necessary.

By the way, send me your email again and I'll send you a slightly cleaned up version on the carrying capacity slides.
