Leupold scope Info wanted

In a trade, I've just picked up a used LEUPOLD M-8-4X Compact. It's in VG shape with clear & crisp optics.

Anybody know it's approximate year of mfg and value?

Can't help you on the age but I've used Leupold fixed powers for years and have had NO problems with them..hang on to it, it's a fine product!I've got 4X and 6X...all were mounted in the late 60's n 70's. This is, of course, my own opinion.LOL

Lord guy, I know Leupold makes a great product, I've got many of them. The reason I bought the gun was specifically because of the Leupold M-8-4X compact scope on it.
I sold the rifle today for a bit more than I had in it and ...... kept the scope & Leupold rings & base.
;) :D :p

The guy who sold it to me didn't know what he had, the buyer thought he got a good deal and I know I got a good'n.

Win-win, eh? :)

I'm not familiar with the M08-4X Compact and am interested in knowing just how well this bandit made out on the deal.

Hi There,

Sorry cannot help on the value but as for the scope it's a reasonable one. Have one on a .22 rimfire. it has been on a 6.5x55 but took it off as the reticle is a little fine and the scope is not the brightest as I found out whilst Roe stalking. I brought mu S/H too. It would probably be a good scope for Stalking on the hill in Scotland, compact and in the open. Woodland showed it's shortcomings I'm afraid to say.

Oh I replaced the M8 with a Meopta 7x50A which I also picked up S/H. I actually prefer 6x42 scopes but have to get what I can find and afford.

If yer Leupold scope has a problem, ANY PROBLEM, Leupold WILL repair it. All Leupold scopes have a LIFETIME warrenty.

As far as yer info, it wasn't what I asked for, didn't help me at all, but I hope I helped you. :)

They made that scope up till a few years ago. The compacts were made for those mountain guns etc..as well as the rimfires..but they had rimfire scopes too. In really good condition the scope will bring about 125- 150 bucks...maybe more in the right market, Everybody wants variables now..big ones too.I have a Compact 3x9 on my 280 Mountain Rifle and it definitely doesn't have the field of view of the 3x9x40..which makes 'em seem to be not quite as bright as the standards. Because of my eyesight problems I am going to take the compact off the 280 and put a 3x9x40 on it. The Compact will go on ebay....while it still can!!:rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Oh BTW the compact line was changed to the FX-II line---approximately anyway. Wholesale on the FX-II 4x33 is about 220 bucks

Pete...I left Home yesterday morning at 7:30 for the show..it was 2 below(6 below at 6 AM)and snowing lightly. Drove the 40 miles to Cody. When I got there it was 24 above...ended up about 50 degrees yesterday. Right now as I write this it is 41 at just past midnight sheesh!:D

Sorry but being from the UK I cannot help much with US prices ;) however if it would sell for £150 US that's about what I paid for mine some years back. Here if you found a buyer the price would be about £85-£125 at a guess that's $170-$250 US.

As for varibles :confused: seeing as how most folks that buy varbile scopes never changed the setting I wonder why bother buying one :( but they are popular as one scope maker has now dropped their fixed scope line and only makes varibles which is a shame as my preference is for a 6x42 scope.
