Ok, I hate to bring these things up because it is a sad day for many but....but...
I am tired of this news reporting stuff pointing to the hunter. This is what I just heard this morning. He was a hunter and stole a hunting rifle from a family member and hunted down people at a mall...........pooooooooopppppp!
This kid is one of those ones that is a result of no a?? whooping when you are bad. Don't want to hurt his feelings. Taught no respect for anything and that ended up a lack of respect for life. If he was so sad, well rid himself from the earth but he thought he would be famous for doing what he did. If only we knew they were planning on such an action beforehand. Oh, I forgot, even if someone did know he planned this, it would of been some kind of rights violation to stop him. That leads me to the main reason for this post. We at HC as members and not necessarily Hunt Chat itself in name should find a good lawyer and sue these reporters along with the news channel for saying he was a hunter with a hunting rifle and hunted down the people. I am a hunter and I find this a violation of my character. A sure case of discrimination suit. I am real mad about them always saying someone was stabbed with a hunting knife....etc etc...I want to cost them and the reporter big bucks for doing this and I will put all money toward hunting or youth or handicap hunt program. Input to this?....are you tired of it too/....hey lawyers ..read..help

I guess we have an organization that does what it can about this sort of thing...NRA...but it has to stop...Now, I know a man and was standing with him when he had to take a walk in the woods after lunch. He came back only to find a DER man going to fine him for leaving it in the woods...this is for real now..Now, walking in the woods hunting at one of the local parks, it looked like it had snowed from all the golf balls that were littering the woods..litter.need law calling it litter..how come that is ok but we can't leave an empty shotgun shell or fine for littering...but back on the original subject, I seen a sign along the road of one of the hunting areas that had signs ' ask permission before you hunt' well that is covered now with posted, no hunting and an added sign pointing to a headless deer left on the mans wooded property that says the reason I posed my land is because of the hunter that left this headless deer here. ' Well yes that made me mad again because on the note I left on his sign was that it was a road kill deer left there by a state/ borough employee and not a 'hunter' but again the hunter takes the hit....hunters respect land, others, critters..and there is a difference in a hunter and a shooter..I am a hunter......so anyhow, why can't we have something done about all this?...one person got God removed from everywhere..humm...one person....my rant and the mood was helped along by the butt hole that is driving his vehicle through the sportsmens club grass doing donuts and just ripping everything up and has not been caught yet...I take care of the grounds there..grrrr....did catch one punk last year doing it...could be same one..never know but I will catch him.

oh the choice of 'hunting rifles' he used was an AK-47...I didn't hear if he was an avid ball player, avid golfer....because after all, what does that have to do with what the punk did?..so why say avid hunter?...another slam for hunting by the anti....lets sue them...

There is an Amdendment above the 2nd Amendment, and it carries a lot of weight. Do we even know whether or not this kid was an avid hunter? Avid is a pretty loose term and might be viewed differently between us and the non-hunting public. Most of us are avid hunters, and when we think of an avid hunter, we probably think of guys that live to get out in the woods/fields/marsh/etc. and hunt 20 to 30 plus times a year. To non-hunters, you might be considered an avid hunter if you hunt once a year and own a gun to hunt with.
Most of us own several guns and we are in awe of one another's collections. However, if a non-gunner owner hears that you own 10 guns, they think you are a wack job.
What this all comes down to is a lack of education in the public. Along with sex education, they should teach gun education. Sex can kill kids through HIV, just as a mishandled gun can.
During the sniper shootings in the DC area, one of the news reporters classified the weapon being used as a .22 rifle. Now, when I hear .22 rifle, I think .22lr, not AR-15. In the end, it was a .22 caliber bullet from a .223 that they were using. Sad thing is that they were using an "assault rifle" that was only being used for sniping. Do you think the public even knows the irony in that? By the way, I am well aware that some AR-15's and AR-10's can be set up for sniping, but I am pretty sure that the public has no clue what the difference in the guns would be and they generally classify "assault weapons" as guns that can kill a lot of people at once?
My solution, have everybody above the age of 21 carry a gun. Require teachers to carry guns. Require the principal of a school to keep an AR-15/AR-10 on hand. See how many people would be willing to do these mass murder type crimes, or any crimes for that matter. In Israel, the military can be seen all over in the middle of the streets with machine guns, and people get along just fine there. I'm not going to go too far down the Israel path because that would result in me posting such a lengthy piece that it would make War and Peace look like a short poem.
At the end of the day, we as hunters would have no cause of action against these news agencies other than to either write a letter to the editor or refuse to watch them. Me, I refuse to watch them. I hardly watch any TV anymore because it is just pure crap. Now that I have a little daugther, I cannot believe the amount of cussing that is allowed on TV at 8:00 and beyond. Our society is a disaster and I'm just waiting for China to invade.

There is such an organization already...these guys spend a lot of money defending hunters/fisherman and outdoorsman (and women's) rights. They have some big organizations behind them, including NRA, NWTF, and many others.

do you guys honesly believe ANY pro-gun legislation has a chance of geting thru? little gets thru that makes sense.
i do not recall the state at the moment, but there was legislation introduced to allow people to defend themselves WHEN NOT AT HOME!
it's damned near impossible, here in kaliphornia, for a law abiding citizen to get a CCW that's non-LEO. (at least down south, anyway)
what does that tell us? self defense is legislated by the states/federal govts, maybe? is self defense a legslated "privledge", or a God given, lawfully recoginized right?
we are rapidly going down the road to becoming the marxist state certain legislators want.

Florida is the state that passed the law that allows self defense outside of the house without having to retreat.
I think that almost all states allow the use of deadly force for self defense outside the home, but some require that you have to be unable to retreat in order to use deadly force. Regardless, you have to be in a position where a person of your stature would be in fear for his life, regardless of whether or not you have the duty to retreat.
Even in Florida, if granny comes at you with her bare hands, I doubt you would be justified in shooting her. Now, if she comes at you with a knife, you might be okay.
Here in Maryland, you had better be cornered at the end of an alley with a 20 foot wall to each side of you and no possible retreat at all, the perp had better be a lot bigger than you and carrying a deadly weapon (i.e., preferably a machine gun or howitzer), you had better have a CCW permit, and then you stand the chance of not doing jail time if you shoot the perp.
Honestly, it is utterly nuts. How many people really know the exact law before they shoot somebody in self defense? Honestly, I would have to ask the perp to stop so that I can do some legal research before I shoot him, just to make sure that I have everything in order before I shoot him. Do you think the perp would be willing to loan me his laptop so I can do the research? LOL Oh yeah, I forgot that I don't even carry because it is nearly impossible to get a CCW permit in Maryland.

At one time the ability of lawyers to get a carry permit in Md was pretty good. They considered attorneys as officers of the court and they were pretty free with the permits. Heck I can even remember when in Md you could even carry openly with no provision for licensing. BUT the MSP decided on their own to shut that down in the late 60's. No law...just an edict from the Maryland Gestapo. There may have been a law passed later but that is how it was done at the time. I guess the MSP also decided that attorneys did no longer rate their own ability for self protection. Y'know...call the police and they'll protect ya. I actually had some thieves at gun point at 0 dark 30 one night and they told me it would be at least 30 minutes to get a cop there...till I told the dispatcher to just send a coroner and a cop cause I didn't think the guys could keep their hands still that long..so I'd just have to shoot 'em. Luckily I knew the cop as he only lived less than 5 minutes away. One of 'em had a loaded Shotgun(yep sawed off too) so I didn't get in any trouble...that time! The MSP is pretty bad about walking on the rights of people. I actually had one in my house one afternoon who decided he was going to go through my house with out my permission. When I objected he told me that he was going to do it anyway. I then told him that I considered him an armed intruder in my house and I would take appropriate action. kinda stopped him especially as I then dialed 911 and told them. They got him to leave very quickly...but I still had a discussion with him and his supervisor a couple of days later. He was transferred to a barracks near DC. I was told that I shouldn't threaten a Maryland State Trooper. Personally I feel if an attorney is practicing criminal law they should certainly be allowed a concealed carry permit. Lotta crazy killers out there ya know??:D

I practice some criminal law, but I don't represent anybody charged with murder and never will. Trust me, there are a lot of reasons to allow attorneys to carry. About 7 years ago, when I was working for a firm and doing surety law (i.e., performance and payment bonds for construction projects), one of the construction companies defaulted on a bunch of their bonds, and the surety company requires the owners of the construction company to sign personally before they issue the bonds. Imagine how happy the construction company owner was when we were trying to take his house from him and force him into bankruptcy. Funny thing is that the partners had me dealing with this guy, who was about twice my weight and a good deal taller than me, while both of the partners on this case were both bigger than me (i.e., one was 6' 4" and the other 6').
