My stepson just bought a .54 Hawken flintlock rifle for the PA deer season that begins the day after Christmas. Wade owns modern arms, but never got into muzzleloaders until today.
We spent two hours at the backyard bench today and got his rifle zeroed at 100 yards with ball and maxis. He prefers roundball and will use that and 75 grains of 2F Goex for opening day.
The local gunshop sells inlines and sidelocks and says that the Traditional PA season keeps flintlocks moving off his gunracks. I will be out on December 26 dressed in my circa 1756 garb with my flinter. The local gun club holds a flintlock running deer event every December and awards frozen turkeys to the top scorers. The shoot is tomorrow.
