I was gittin ready fer my next gardenin season and since my hubby chews, I plan on raisin & makin my own chewin baccy. I been trained REAL good on the process, fer cigerettes too. I was pullin suckers off of baccer when I was old enough to walk.
Anyway, yesterday I came up with the perfect idear fer makin my own baccer brick usin pvc pipe. Do any of ya'll chew, dip er whatever? If ya do, ya might consider growin yer own this year. It's alot of work, but it can save ya alot of money. Not only that, most types of baccer gits better with age, so you can never have to much of it. Makes a great pesticide too..just as good as sevin dust, but it wont hurt ya if ya put it directly on yer vegetables. Good fer bees stings too...
and...do any of ya'll home brew? only thing I ever seen involved alot of copper pipe, a mountain and alot of corn & sugar :rolleyes ..have made my own wine...but we seldom drink so it kinda just sits there lol

Lilred, I can tell ya that home brewing is a lot of work too. I still have my old Still for makin likker and it can make some really potent stuff. I even had a fuel alcohol permit from the BATF at one time but it was a pain with all the reportin. My Father in law and I grew some bakker once er twict and it is a lot of work but he made his own twists for chewin. We only grew about a 1/2 acre and lordy did we have enough. I used some for rollin my own but tried makin cigars. Wasn't too good at that though. But you are right about that baccer juice. Kills bugs pretty good. We also made a fair amount of wine. We made it in the Kosher way...oy vey!!:D Some of the best wine we made was with them little bitty wild cherries they have growin back east there. Man..that stuff was gooooddd! Made grape and strawberry wine too. It was all good. The best stuff though...we made brandied peaches. Peel them suckers up and cut in half. Put in a quart jar and add a half cup of sugar. Screw a lid down tight and bury the jars for 7-12 months...about 2-3 foot down and when ya dig 'em up...whooo eeee! that is some good stuff. Juice is good but them peaches is even better. You can do it with apricots too. Really good. I ain't much of a drinker but that homemade stuff is goooddd!! As fer makin likker..I can give ya ther recipes. Don't think I should just post 'em on here. Might have a few people just a gittin them selfs in trouble. Heck when I was a kid I lived 14 miles from the Md Delaware line. There was no less than 12 stills tween where I lived and the state line. Law never seemed to mess with 'em. I know that you being a mountain gal...you'll know how ta keep outta trouble.:D

My experiance with beer making, a couple of years, was that I would rather buy beer. I mean, making beer is OK and the beer is at best OK. However most of the beer on the shelf, even the worst of it, got there by winning awards on a national level.... I think the temprature control is the hard part. Well maybe it is waiting to try the new batch.:D

Wifey used to brew many yrs ago but we ended up drinkin a bit more than usual seeings we had plenty.
As far as growing my own chew....since I switched from my usual snuff to the cheap stuff I can't see putting in all the hard work . At less than $11.00 per roll (ten cans) I will keep buying the pre made/canned snuff.
