Been Thinking

I've been thinking about getting a new shotgun for ducks and upland, so a stoeger single shot 12ga. should work quite nicely, I'm tight on cash, so $149.oo shouldnt be too bad. if anyone has one, does it work well?

save up some more and get an 870 Express, you'll not go wrong.

You can get by nicely with a single shot, but you would be much happer with a good used Rem. 870 Express.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the 870 is the way to go, or a Mossberg 500. I have both (among others).

I would also vote for a repeater for waterfowl and upland hunting- both types of hunting where a second shot is often needed.
Looking for a used Rem 870 or Mossberg 500 is sound advice. Both are much, much more versatile than a single shot.

Mini, that,IMO, would be a better choice...don't see a lot of double shooters now days....I've tried one a couple of times and cannot hit any thing with one...just my hangup! Lotta people used to shoot them!

Even though Stoeger is owned by Benelli/Beretta, it isn't the same quality gun. One of my law school buddies had one and it shot high all the time. It took us a little while to figure out why he was missing everything when he was hunting with it.

While I love upland hunting with an o/u, I don't think I would pick it for waterfowl hunting. Doubles are just too hard to load in the blind.

In your shoes, with the amount of money you have, I still think I would opt for the Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 as a do everything gun until I could afford to add more guns to the collection. Trust me, I was in your shoes a while ago, and I used a Browning BPS for everything until I could afford my own guns (i.e., the BPS was given to me by my dad on my 8th birthday).

After I could afford additional guns, I found out that the BPS wasn't the optimal gun for any of my hunting needs. In a pinch though, it works.

Definately do not buy a SXS without shooting one first. For some reason they are a totally different to point than a single barreled gun. I still think your better off to wait for a 870. The 500 Mossy is a close second and you could live with that for alot of years.
